Delete duplicate contacts - AT&T Cell Phones

If you want to delete the read only contact, you have to either delete the main contact (not the linked one) or you have to uninstall the app. If you want to delete the read only contact just because they show up as duplicates, you can try merging the contacts

Remove Duplicate Contacts from Yahoo! Mail

To remove duplicate contacts from the Yahoo! Mail address book:

• Follow the Contacts link in Yahoo! Mail.
• Select Tools ' Clean up Duplicates... from the toolbar.
• Click a suspected duplicate.
• Make sure all address book entries that do not belong to the one you're consolidating are not checked (for Merge this duplicate) under Duplicates.
• Click Edit under Merge Preview to remove any extraneous data or make other desired changes to the newly merged contact.
• Click Save and Next.

Using Merge all EXACT on the duplicates list, you can quickly eliminate any dupes that are precise copies without differences.

I have assumed that:

1. Your identity is based upon an email account @hotmail.com,
or @msn.com, or @live.com - and
2. When you open WLMail, you allow it to sign into the same
hotmail, msn or live identity

If these assumptions are correct, an easy way to clean your
contact list is via the webmail interface.

Close Windows Live Mail

Use your web browser to sign into your mail account at
http://mail.live.com.

Click on Options, followed by More Options.

Scroll down to "Customize your contacts", and click on "Clean up
duplicate contacts".

Use the wizard to merge or delete duplicates.

Sign out from the webmail interface

Open Windows Live Mail and allow the program to sign into your
identity.

When you select the contacts menu, WLMail should synchronize with
the contacts list on the central server.

Android allows users to "Join" contacts, which merges the contact details of several records into one.
To "Join" contacts using your Android device:
1. Select a contact
2. Hit Edit
3. Hit the Menu button
4. Select Join
5. Select a matching contact in your list of contacts.
6. Hit Save or Done to finish editing the contact.

How to Delete Duplicate Contacts on Android

If you find duplicated contacts on your phone after Data transfer, simply delete the contact from your phonebook to remove the duplicated contact.

From the Home screen, tap All apps > People > tap and hold the contact you wish to delete > Delete contact.

NOTE 1: All apps can be found when you tap the triangle icon on the lower left corner of the home screen that opens the phone's application menu.

you manually have to do this, just delete contact those are duplicate.go to contact name > option > delete contact.

This is because you have duplicates on your phone for the same phone no.Delete those duplicates.

Some time you would have duplicates in phone memory and the Sim memory so caller id will not show up.

1)First take back-up of all contacts.
2)delete phone and Sim contacts stored fully.
3)Now save contacts one by one only in sim or phone.
4)No duplicates for same phone no.

If you PC-suite you can back up phone contacts easily.
else delete all the phone contacts first and then delete only some Sim contacts which contains the duplicates.

SEE THE OPTION MENU IN CONTACTS AND SELECT THE DUPLICATE OPTION IT WILL DELETE THE DUPLICATE ENTRIES.

hey I solved it myself!!!

initially i was entering only four digits, but this time I just kept entering '0' as many times as the phone takes (which i think is six digits)....and VOILA...everything done!!!!

Hi cburke. Had this same problem. go to the phonebook, scroll to the number you want to delete and then press menu. it will take you to the edit screen then select delete, or whatever you want to do with the number. Simple really, but instructions with this phone are awful.
