You search for your computer sound card driver. You need to install it after reformatting just like the motherboard, operating system and etc.. To know the Model of your sound card, Right click the My Computer icon and choose properties. If you have more questions, just reply back:D
Your missing the driver, You need to find out what manufacturer made your sound card or on-board audio processor, you can often do this by looking at the manufacturer's information on your model computer. They also usually have a menu for downloading the drivers. Make sure your using the drivers for your appropriate Operating system, " XP/Vista/7 " and that the driver is for your exact model computer.
You can get the correct drivers from the Gateway website. Use another computer and download all the Windows XP files for that model number from the website. You need your model number of your pc. Get the files for your motherboard, video, sound card, network card, etc. save them to a usb key or a burn them to a cd. Take the usb key/cd to the other system and load the drivers.
This will get your system back up and running in now time.

go to the site of your motherboard brand; like if your motherboard is intel go directly to intel technical support download, there you can download what driver you need for your hardware. you can find the name and model of your motherboard by opening the cover of your pc and look for the model and the number which is located usually on the board itself. good luck!
First, consult your Owners manual for the specs for your Computer. If you can not find them there, refer to the companies website. Generally, they have the proper driver for your computer there. You will need the Brand, and Model of your computer.
