Sounds like your power supply board, or possibly just the port the charger plugs into if said charger works else where.

SOURCE: My PC won't run with ac /dc power!

Hello. There is a hardware failure with the laptop not the AC charger. AC chargers have some range of protections of their own. If the power requirements of the laptop are bigger then what the charger can handle, the charger will turn off. Also other parameters can bring the charger offline. In your case, you have a problem with a small chip, the battery charge controller unit, witch regulates the amount of current required to propperly charge the battery. When this thing fails, the charging requirements for the battery are reported rong and the AC charger is forced to give more power then necesary. This results in disconnection of the AC charger ( an internal fail safe of the AC charger) and the laptop to swich back to battery power. When the laptop is turned off, it can charge the battery because the power requirements are low, having all processor, main board, hard disk etc turned off. Therefore the AC charger can handle the load. However you will need to have it checked by a service center as it is a hardware fault. Both AC charger and laptop needs that check. The charge controll circuit needs to be replaced probably. It will be a somewhat expensive repair. Don't buy any other battery untill you have the laptop checked. For more aditional info please post back. PS. Sorry for my bad english, I am from Romania, it is pretty hard for me to explain tehnical stuff in english.

SOURCE: Dell inspiron 6000 power cord connection

Hi

I am afraid it is going to be a a bit of work taking the laptop apart, solder the power jack than put back together.

If you are not confident to doing it i suggest you seek help by having a repair shop/centre service it for you. If the laptop is under warranty, you are better of raising a warranty call.

Anyway, you will need some screw drivers; small Flat and a Philips heads. You will also need soldering iron and lead. Finally, a work table will make things easier.

Check Replacing the System Board for help access the system board. Check and solder yo the power jack carefully and reverse the steps to put the laptop together.

Let me know how you get on.

Mike

SOURCE: Hi My Dell M1530 doesn't start up

There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5920 will not power on. Power Cord,

There is a cmos/ rtc battery but that would have nothing to do with powering on your laptop. Most likely there is an issue in the circuit at the DC power jack. If the connection seems loose, or moving the plug at the point where it connects to the computer gives a glimmer of power then it is the jack. The DC jack is usually soldered to the motherboard and requires some knowledge to repair. If the jack is okay then there is a problem further up in the power circuit on the motherboard which means trouble.

This is what you power jack looks like and yours is not soldered, but has a 4 pin connector that plugs in to the motherboard. Much easier to replace than a soldered connection. Click HERE to see it.

P.S. Just because there is a green light on the adapter it doesn't mean power is being distributed to the connector tip. You may want to try a different adapter before spending money to have it diagnosed.

I CANT CHARGE IN ON MODE BUT I CAN CHARG IT IN SLEEP MODE OR OFF MODE

Sounds like it is taking in as much power as its spending when on, or maybe even more so. It could be a charger cord that isn't powerful enough or going bad, or it could be a plug has a problem.

Make sure that your charger is right for your laptop. If need be, make a new question acting that with the model number of the charger and the model number of the computer. If the box halfway through the cord gets really hot that is a sign of having the wrong cord. Especially if it's when you're using the computer and trying to charge.

Laptop won't charge

Step 1:
If your laptop charger seems broken, it's most likely because the battery will not charge. You plug in the cord, the lights come on, but the charging light doesn't change or blinks repeatedly. When you remove the power cord, the laptop shuts off instantly due to the depleted battery. There's more than one cause for this, and it's not always a broken charger.

Check the connection between the charger and the laptop. It should fit firmly in the DC jack without wiggling. If it is loose, use electrical tape to hold it in place so the charger can receive power. This is a temporary fix, however, because a faulty connection can create sparks and cause a fire or injury. A loose connection will just get worse over time, so have it sent to a DC jack specialist as soon as possible. Turn off the laptop and flip it upside down. Locate the latch that secures the battery and slide open. The battery should pop out; give it a tug if it doesn't. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol (Methylated Spirits)to the tip of a cotton swab and use it to clean the battery's connectors. Dirt can build up and interfere with the connection, giving the appearance of a broken charger. Let the alcohol dry completely and re-insert the battery. Slide the latch to secure it and plug in the power cord to test it. See if the laptop powers on with the charger only and battery removed. If it does, the battery is the likely culprit and should be replaced. If the charger is truly broken, the only thing to do is to replace it or the power cord attached to it. Look on the bottom and write down the part number. Call the laptop manufacturer for a replacement charger or search for the part number on eBay. If you purchase from anyone other than the original manufacturer, ask for genuine parts to reduce the possibility of problems. Troubleshoot Mag Safe adaptors

Toshiba satellite A200-27Z power cord led flasing failure to post will try any suggestions

Have you tried another Cord with the EXACT same power specs? Remove the battery. Has the cord/charger/transformer been damaged? Has the AC jack been damaged? Due to pulling on the cord while plugged in? At the AC jack "wiggle" the plug a bit to see if the plug and AC jack are making a good connection or Loose. Sounds like a loose AC connection.

My zoom g1xn suddenly stopped working. When i connect the power source, it doesn't turn on. . . When i tried batteries, i turned on but the display was flickering then it turned off. . . What is wrong?

Try another cord/charger. Check the AC jack in the machine. Is the battery charging with the cord/charger plug in? Has the laptop AC jack been pulled by the cord? Damaged?

Cant ge my hp tablet to turn on

If it doesn't anything at all, not a indicator light nothing, it is likely the battery is the problem and will need replacing. Make sure the charger is good first. If the battery is completely open it will not run even with the AC cord connected.

Ausus U50A power tansition problem

If you are saying your laptop shuts down when you remove the power cord then that's a sign that your battery is dead.

Batteries only have a useful life, then after that they have to be replaced. Once the useful life is up, most times the battery will not take a charge.

Some batteries will take a charge and say they are at 100% but as soon as you remove the power cord it doesn't take long before it is drained at 0%.

Have not used my Garmin since January 2011. Sitting on shelf. Plugged in to my car charger and would not turn on. Would this mean it needs charged?

After three months, I'm sure the internal battery needs to be charged. But even so, it should work when plugged into the car charger. The first thing you should do is check that the charger cord is connected properly at both ends. Mine has a green LED on the plug. If yours does, make sure that light goes on. Try jiggling the connectors at each end of the power cord. If it still doesn't work, the next thing to try is replacing the power cord. (Maybe you can borrow a power cord from a friend). If the power cord isn't the problem, I'm afraid the problem is in the Garmin itself. Good luck.
