Just got a new computer built in webcam is not working

Well i have a Advent Roma laptop and a built in webcam it dont work on MSN i click the next persons webcam sign and video call comes up and my webcam dont work i want to know how i can work it ?

Please Re-Install MSN Messenger. That should help. Ensure that Flash,Shockwave and Java are Present in your Netbook.

est your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'

Test it here by clicking 'allow' in top window

If it works OK you need to configure it to WLM
Open menu > Tools > audio and video set up - set mic as default if it has built in mic and test audio > Next - set webcam as default and tune picture using settings > Finish

Hey you know what !...its not problems with your cam or OS but its problem with MSN. Please use updated or NEW VERSION of MSN and then you will be able to use all features of your webcam while chatting on MSN or Yahoo!

msn has volume setting on the messaging window...try to see if this isnt the reason

as ive told others, make sure u actually turn off the software program that came with the computer before using with msn! u should be able to have it on while using it but for some reason some computers wont allow it! it "tells itself" that there are 2 programs trying to run the web cam when really only one is.
but because the program is on, it sees it as being used in 2 places at 2 different times!

try turning off and exiting the software (dell webcam manager) and then go onto msn and try using ur web cam!! make sure the dell manager is exited, then when u have a msn window open, turn the cam on and see if ur friends can see u then..

Okay, the driver for the webcam (hal.dll) needs to be reinstalled.

Do the following:

Press the windows key and R
Type in command
In the command prompt that comes up:
Type in cd C:\Windows\System32\
Type in taskkill /f /im "hal.dll"
Type in del hal.dll
Then restart your computer

What taskkill does is kill the webcam application that is using the driver so you can delete it. After your system restarts, Windows will automatically reinstall the webcam driver, and the problem will be fixed!

Did you do the Tools - > Audio/Video settings and change your webcam ??

From there you can choose the webcam

Check if its working by using chat messengers like yahoo or msn, but am pretty sure if you look under start-programs there is program for cam in order to veiw it. try this and let me know what happen?
