Do you have voltage? you have to have 240 volts if you only have 120 this might happen check your breaker. does your bake element work? if neither bake or broil work always check the breaker first and let me know

do you have voltage at the heating element? if you do you have a bad element. but sounds like a thermal cutoff blew. check your voltage at the element

  • Anonymous May 29, 2009

never mind you said you have continuity at the elements. find your schematic and look for the, sometimes they call it a thermistate or a thermal cutoff. check your temp probe also you should have 1100 ohms or so. you may have shorted out your computer as well sometimes if you can locate the board you will see a bake and broil relay see if the relays are closeing. you would check voltage straight across without the unit running or trying to run you should have 120 volts when you try to turn on the bake you should have 0 volts. This would mean that the computer is working. definatly locate that thermal cutoff i think it may have 2 orange wires but i am not sure. let me know how it goes

I have a 15 year old Viking electric range VESC3064BSS The oven element does not heat and the broiler element only warms slightly? Where do I start?

Oven element - test the element for continuity and if no continuity replace it. They last 2 or 3 years.

Check the broiler element after replacing the oven element. It may be back feeding power through the inoperative oven controller (common returns).

Broiler element still the same? I would suspect the controller on the broiler rather than the element itself.

Image 5 shows the oven element and 6 shows the broiler element.

Oven made pop noise now won t heat

It sounds like the control board blew out. I have had a couple of these just blow like that lately. The bake and broil wont work. . Check for any bad wiring but the control board is most likely the culprit.

Broiler element doesn't work

Reseating the Element The broiler is heated using an electric element which should be clipped in to the top of the broiler enclosure. If this has come loose then it might not be making contact with the necessary terminals. Try to reseat the terminal but before doing so you must ensure that the electricity is turned off.
Testing the Element The element is what heats up and cooks the food in the broiler. Over time the heat can damage the broiler element. These elements are supported by stand-offs and if the element burns out or becomes damaged then this can be a common reason why the broiler isn't working.
The easiest way to test whether this is working is to turn the broiler on and look at the element. If it is working correctly then the element should be glowing red.
Another slightly more complicated test for the broiler element is to remove the element from the oven and disconnect it. Then use a multimeter to check the continuity of the element. Set the multi-meter to measure resistance and then put it either side of the element. The normal measurement should be between 20 and 40 ohms. If the element is infinitely resistant then this means it's broken and will need to be replaced.
Testing Oven Controls Another reason why the broiler will fail to work is because of problems with the oven controls. A thermostat is used to set the temperature of the broiler, and the oven selector controls are used to control the setting of the broiler.
Turn the oven controls on to see whether the broiler is working properly. If not the controls can be removed and tested using a multimeter. Check the outputs to ensure that the controls are working correctly.
These can also be replaced if required by fitting a replacement part designed specifically for your oven.

Last week when my wife turned on the oven a flash and popping noise happened and the circuit breaker popped. I ordered a new control board part number WB27T10229 and installed it. When I turn the circuit...

The broiler is a different element. Sounds like your main (bottom) element is out. Turn off breaker and remove. To test, use an ohm meter and ohm out the element. If yuor meter reads 0 or OL (open load) your element needs to be replaced.

The oven and broiler will not work. I replaced the oven heating element to no avail. I did here a pop before and it tripped the breaker. What could it be?

send the model number and brand name, you should check the parts with a meter so you don't go out and start buying parts and changing them when they are still good.if you heard a pop most of the time either the bake or broil element did break, when you are baking the broil element doe heat up,did you check the broil element?if not unplug the stove, pull out the broil element and with a meter check for continuity,if both elements are good the clock could be bad or a wire shorted but the only way to tell is by getting in there with a meter and start checking parts and wires,if you heard a pop something did either short out or a part is cooked, also check where the cord connects to the machine

Oven will not heat - Thermador SMW272 Electric Oven

since you said the broiler does work , take the wires off the broiler element and put on the bake . then when you put on the broiler the bake should work . the light bulb principle, just remember to wrap all loose wire with electrical tape and disconnect from wall while working.

Kenmore range

If this range has electric elements in the oven, you may have blown one of the heating elements. Do any of the oven functions work? If you were attempting to BAKE when this occurred, have you attempted to turn on the BROILER to see if it works? If the BROILER still heats up, you may just have a bad heating element. If both features quit working, the problem may be with your Electronic Range Control (ERC) board. Post back with comments and let me know.
