Floor jack, jack stands, cherry picker, common sense, mechanical ability, basic hand tools, service manual helps.

The task requires mechanical skills and hardware such as a Cherry Picker. Without the proper tools; you cannot manage this function. In addition, you have to remove every attachment, fuel lines, support brackets, covers, plates, mounting brackets, electrical, and misc. devices. Then reassembly is difficult and you need a computer to reset the parameters set forth by Buick.

Ok, first off apply E brake. Second, locate motor mounts usually on side bottom, connect to frame. Third jack up car place jack stands. Fourth,disconnect all wiring, maf, pretty much anything and everything that will get in way. Fifth, grab cherry picker, connect engine to cherry picker. Sixth, disconnect engine from trans, or leave connected but might be more difficult for some. Seventh,unbolt engine from mounts(usually 3or so bolts on each mount), do not rock engine, raise cherry picker(or crane some call it different)when tension on chain slowly rock engine. Should pop out unless you missed a bolt.

You can either drop the tank, if its near empty that is; but it hardly ever works out that way. When I did mine I took the bed off. Unbolt I believe 8 bolts , wiring for taillights, and (I used my cherry picker) lift the bed up. The pump assy goes into the tank, some twist out, some might have a couple screws holding it. I don't remember. Assembly is the opposite of removal.

The other option, but be warned could cause damage to the motor mounts, is to use a cherry picker to lift the engine up enough to clear the alternator from the engine bay.

if i recall this one has to be installed from underneath. it's easier as an assembly then disassemble on the floor.

You go through the side sliding door with a cherry picker.

Take the engine cover loose, and remove it. Now attach your lifting cradle, (Or chain with bolts so that the chain doesn't slide in the lifting hook), to the top of the engine. Lift up and back. Keep working it up, and out, of that small compartment. Use three people, and BE CAREFUL! Always have an exit planned in case something goes wrong. Stand away from the engine, not crowded down in there as you remove it.

pull all bolts get a engine puller or as i call it a cherry picker and hook one chain to the hook by the passenger side closest to the cab and the other side to the driverside by the tailgate.then get another chain and do exactly the opposite so that you make an X the hook the cherry picker/engine puller to the center and lift slowly..
