Gateway laptop usb ports don't work

Motherboard issue.assuming all the drivers are properly installed. Not uncommon. Use the remainder and if necessary get an adapter to increase the number of ports you have.

This issue unfortunately, is a hardware issue and not just a minor issue. Laptops have USB ports embedded to the motherboard and replacing just the USB ports means replacing the motherboard. If the computer is still under warranty, you might want to contact Gateway and don't call in for repair but to get an Accidental Damage Protection. Why? Because I don't think it is covered by the base warranty that you have on your computer. However, if the computer is no longer under warranty, you then have to get it repaired, and pay for the repair. The repair cost might make you decide to just purchase a new computer. Motherboard costs around $250 - $300 to replace.

this shows the user guide But I did not see anything for USB specific trouble shooting.

Other wierd things I have sceen...check ALL USB ports to make sure that they are not broken or have something stuck in them and are shorting out, can cause a MB functions to expire. Try a lighted item in the ports, is the say USB mouse lighting up? If so then this is a software issiue.

Turn off all usb functions and try rebooting then turn off and try them again only turn them on this time. You mentioned that you checked bios setting but did you also check to see if the bios needed upgraded?

the USB ports might have to be enabled in the BIOS start up procedure.
Press F2 on some machines whilst booting up to get into these menu pages.
Navigate using "tab" or arrow keys do not alter anything untill you are confident you can operate these pages
save and quit or discard changes
change values using enter key--find here to enable usb ports/hub

you need to check your device manager and make sure the device manager is reading the USB ports, if not, you will need top get a USB driver or go to ADD NEW HARDWARE, and search through there until you find universal serial hub or bus then click ADD

Sorry to say that there is no way to upgrade usb 1.1 ports to usb 2 as it is related to the chipset connected to them. Windows service packs do not help in this case where it is hardware to be changed. Try looking for a PCMIA card that has usb 2 ports on.

check it on device manager whether the printer is detecting or not, or put usb cable on some different port then check, also uninstall the drivers, then install it again

update you device in the internet if didn't your again, try to used another OS. Use Windows XP

Try to re install the camera software that come with cd that included when you bought it. Maybe there is a corrupted or complex to the other software installed. Also check if the usb cable or port is working properly. Maybe the the usb port in your laptop is only usb1.0 and your camera usb is 2.0 . That's why the laptop cannot recognize the camera when you connected. Try also to use to other computer the camera if is working the problem is in your laptop.

it`s normal when you plug a usb 2.0 device into a usb 1.0 port i get that all the time it`s ok
