Vacuum not running; do I have to replace the cord winder or just cord?

My Miele Solaris won't run. When I took it to the vacuum store, they said the cord winder needed to be replaced since the wires were burnt/shorted. The cord winder works so why can't they replace the cord?

Typically, the cord and winder are supplied as a unit.  It is possible to fit new cord to an existing winder, but the amount of labour involved will make the job more expensive than simply exchanging the complete unit.  Even if you're going to do the job yourself, it's simply not worth planning to just fit new cable (unless you are a masochist with unlimited time and patience).  Pay that bit extra for a complete unit - you'll be glad you did (or you'll be sorry if you don't!).

Think cleaning lady pulled too hard on cord...now no power, doesn't turn on

it is possible that the cord rewinder has become broken inside the unit. It is a common problem with this and other models by Miele.

There IS a fix to the cord rewind, unless your model falls within the 5 year warranty. In which case contact your nearest Miele dealer for a replacement to the cord rewinder.

Good luck.

My Miele Carina Vacuum stopped working. Does it have a fuse that can be replaced that could be at fault here?

although it might have an internal fuse on this model, I dont think that will be the problem.

The miele cord rewinder has been known to have a small fault in it where the cord winder that actually retracts the cord onto will come apart from the electrical connection in the cord winder itself.

As most of these units have a 5 year warranty anyway, I suggest that you take it to your nearest miele dealer for a repair/replacement on the cord rewinder.

Good luck.

How do i disassemble (i.e. which screws do i pull and which hidden tabs are there) the cord retractor/switch assembly? there is only one screw that appears to hold the piece but it does not come out,...

There are 7 torx head screws to remove in the top plastic housing. 5 are in the perimeter and two are "hidden". One is under the power/cord winder panel which pops off in an upward diredtion. and one is under the cloth filter on top of the motor, inside the bag compartment. Take out those 7 and lift the plastic top panel off !

The vaccum can not work.

possible solution:

I had the same problem. try plugging in & pulling cord out of rewind a number of times. if motor goes on, you need repair on cord winder. per miele tech-"not common prob.", but repairman said "yes, common prob." good luck.

Miele Solaris won't turn on after falling down 1 stair.

there is no reset on this model. look @ your miele info & it shows you where it would be. I just had to look for mine when it would'nt start. mine ended up being cord winder kink affecting motor.

good luck

Miele vacuum cord reel question

I had to take off the cord reel and clean the contacts inside it. I also bent the contacts out since they tend to wear down after time.

Miele solaris turbo plus S514 will not start in live outlet

The reason why the vacuum will not start is because of the cord winder. They are pretty tricky to repair yourself. A service center could probably fix it for about $50.00. It has been a while since I have worked on one of these but I think the screws are under the switch and maybe the filter.

Miele S514 Solaris Electro - won't turn on

I don't have the exact same model as you guys, but maybe my situation is similar to yours. My Miele Silver moon model won't turn on one day. I took it to a Miele authorized repair shop ( they all offer free estimate on finding the problem first, then they will tell you what the repair cost will be). They said my vacuum cord reel shim was damaged. The damage was caused by over stretching the cord while I vacuumed. According to them the shim is kind of like a clip that holds the cord inside the vacuum. When the shim is damaged, the cords are pulled apart and electricity can no longer pass through. That would expalin why it won't turn on. The repair cost was not too bad, it costed forty-six dollars. I hope this helps.

Cord winder not working

Most times you will have to replace the cord rewind. Sometimes just the cord, but usually there is a problem with thr reel contacts. But now that the spring has unwound, you will have to replace it. You will need model number rather then Red Star.
