Windows Live messenger disconnects frequently (3-5 minutes after sign on). The problem has been narrowed down to the router (works wired with the same internet connection and tested on other wi-fi hotspots). both laptop and router (Belkin wireless G router) is brand new. It could be the proxy or firwall setting in the router.
you need to open the router page and check the firewall and proxy setting ..
or you can download the tool from the below site
www.ultrareach.com/
and it will take off all proxy setting and you winows messenger should work.
This should help you identifing if its a proxy issu.

I accidentally clicked the wrong product when asked for product selection, sorry about that.
First step to resolve would be to change the frame rate on the router. Log in to your router and change the MTU to 1300. Post here with the results of that change.
