Check the damper and see if there is ink it in. There might be an air leak. If there isn't any ink in the damper, or the plastic on the damper looks puffy then replace it. There is a rubber washer in those that fail sometimes as well.

Output was stopped because a problem was found in the data received.
Operation cannot be continued. Check whether or not there is an error in the data. Check for a problem with the connector cable or the computer, and redo the operation from setting up the object to be printed on.Roland Technical Support.
Could you try
(1) Temporarily stick a white strip over the sensor where it detects the media or
(2) On the length of the media or
(3) Even staple same sized white media below the black one which you can un-staple after printing.

Do you have your LAN Cable tied with your AC power Cable?
I have th same problem on two VP540 after seven years of trouble free working. A few months ago I was reorganizing my shop and I tied up both cables to avoid tangle cables with machine wheels every time I move It.
I think that the noise produced by AC Voltage Affect the VP540 ethernet port.

Your issue may be attributed to two possible points of failure. 1.) The Nozzle is clogged, 2.) the ink is already dry inside. You can try to clean the nozzle by doing the following steps. If it does not work, try to replace the cartridge with a new one.
