My Camera lens trys to open but wont.

Lens stuck, is common defective that need new lens unit replacement or just repairable.

Causes of a Lens Error: There are a number of ways with which a lens error can be caused. Particulates might have managed to get into the mechanical bits that allow the lens to retract, a purely physical interference with the lens mechanism. If the camera was dropped, especially while the lens was extended, there's a pretty good chance something might have been knocked loose, such as the guide pins upon which the lens withdraws and retracts.

How to Repair a Lens Error: As scary as a lens error might seem, there are some easy fixes. Before trying any of them out, however, first take a good long look at your camera warranty and maybe have a chat with the company. If the lens error will be covered under the terms of the warranty, go for it. Even some of the simple fixes mentioned below might void the camera warranty. Frankly, however, it's unlikely that a lens error will qualify for the warranty.

It was dropped and now the lens will not retract. When turned on it only says lens error and then turns off. Oh, it trys to clos or open but nothing. I've taken the body off but not sure what the next step...

The lens alignment have been lost when you dropped it down . So only it is throwing the LENS ERROR.

Try adjusting the lens to its original position..Do not apply too must pressure to break it...We have to open the lens area and readjust it which can be done by authorized technicians only..

When I put certain dvds into the player, it goes into "loading" mode and then prints "NO DISC" on the TV screen. Any idea what the problem is?

There could be dust on the lens so try using a DVD Lens cleaner and give that a few trys, if that fails , then the lens has developed a fault.

When trying to power up hear 3 beeps and camera turns off.

Make sure the batteries are good and in right. If it keeps doing it you might be having a problem with your lens opening up and staying open, I had a camera that did that to me, and the lens had been knock and wouldnt open properly, check that out. The lens was out of range from normal and would automatically shut down

Lens will not retract.

try taking some canned air and blowing around the lens while you turn it on and off. you might be able to free it up. your lens either has a broke gear or dust or dirt in between them. or you lens motor could have gone out or froze. a gentle tap on a flat surface lens down can sometime correct this. I repair these all the time sorry for your problem. Let me know if I can help you any further on this problem.

Zoom error

Just fixed the same problem on mine. This is what I did:
Unscrew 6 small screws around the lens casing and remove the casing (two layers ((rings)). Jiggle the inner most lens casing while you turn power on. The lens moving (i.e., auto focus) mechanism becomes unstuck. Voila.
The problem in my case was caused by the dust that accumulated inside the casing and caused the auto focus mechanism not to move freely.
Good luck.
