Display screen is flashing repeatedly, with no clock visible. While each time it flashes you can hear the pump surge. "surge, surge, surge, surge" Flashes on display happen at the same time as the surge. Have tried flipping the power switch within the unit off and then back on. We have also tried flipping the breaker off and back on, as it is on it's own breaker. Today was the zero coffee's left before descaling needed to be done. Thoughts?

OK. Here's the deal. I struggled with this CVA 4070 (F 73) problem also recently, and even posted a questions in the cyber world about it. I jiggled, re-cleaned the machine, re-read the Miele manual, and scoured the internet for schematic drawings of this brewing unit's insides. No luck. Finally after finding out I'd have to pay $199 just for a service clown to walk in my front door, I said NYET!!! I must solve by myself. If I can take apart & fix my Dyson, etc, etc, I WILL DO THIS TOO!! (MUST HAVE COFFEE>>>)
Pull out the brewer, turn it a quarter-turn to your right, and look at the spot where that small black plastic piece -- shaped like a block "M" or block "W" -- should be situated. Pull it out, if it isn't out already. Don't worry about yanking it out or harming these parts, said the Miele troubleshooter guy in New Jersey on the phone. They're "made from the same plastic used in football helmets." Okey-dokey.
This approx. 1.5" wide, blocky plastic piece is part of the "slide" that takes the brewed coffee grounds into the waste container. When positioned correctly, it looks like a block "W," with the "wings" ointing up, and slides in just under a brown 1.5" flat piece. A small, down-facing tab on the brown piece clicks into the "W" piece and holds it in place. The "W" should feel fairly solid, although it is not rigidly in place, as the entire mechanism is a movable system to deposit the grounds in the waste receptacle.
Put everything back inside your CVA 4070 "love" machine, hit "on," and wait for it to go through its warm-up. No F73 message? Yeah! Mission Accomplished. You, like I, have fixed your Miele, saved your family relationships, and saved yourself a bundle from unnecessary service calls.

I'm probably to late for this answer, but I will share it anyway.
I got this problem after buying a used CVA620, that had not been used for a while.
To solve the problem i used a breast pump :-)
My wife had this doublepump after the last kid. And I used the hoses that comes with this unit (rubber-like) and connecting them to the hot-water and the steam-nozzles. I started pumping, and pushed the hotwaterbutton. After 5min of pumping and swearing, the job was done. No my CVA works as a charm again :-)
It involves the use of the two buttons in the middle of the "Meter Instruments", between the speedometer and that tachometer.
The call the top button "Mode" and the bottom button "Reset", but I'll just use "top" and "bottom" here.
To set the clock time:

The main screen cannot even be accessed, as it flashes repeatedly - showing nothing. As it flashes it sounds as though the pump motor is briefly turning on and off. While it is doing this, no water comes out.
I`ve contacted Miele, and they alkso
Add a Commenwere not very helpful. They took a message and said that they would `call me back`. Well they did 3 hour later, while I was at work - with no resolution.
What everyone misunderstands is that......... I CANNOT ACCESS ANY MENUS. i cannot see a clock, no information, no errors, nothing. It flashes some light, and then dark, and then light again all the while - the pump is surging.
hello!!, I had the same problem, the solution is possible, you have to go over the welds on the board, only the one near the transformer. In my case it worked perfect.
