My x5470 says enable bidirectional communication when I print

When you first loaded the print driver there should have been a box to check to enable bidirectional communication. Most Lexmark printers require this to work properly

What is the operating system of your computer? There are X5470 drivers available in the Lexmark website that can be downloaded for free. Click on this link Lexmark X5470 Drivers.Select the version for your operating system to download the driver. Follow the instructions on your computer screen. You should be printing in no time. Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > right click on the Lexmark 5400 Series print object > Properties > Lexmark 5400 Series Properties window pops up, click on Ports tab > place a check mark in Enable bidirectional support by clicking in the box beside it. Hit Apply and click Ok to save the settings. Try to print. If problem persists, disconnect the printer usb cable from computer, uninstall the software completely by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > All Programs > Lexmark 5400 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Restart pc. To reinstalI, I recommend you use the software you can download from the Lexmark website. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/cgn74X. Download and install the software. I have tried to set up this wireless printer on my laptop (windows vista basic). I run through installation and get message - installation complete and the green indicator light is fully on. When I try and print I get message Printer cannot communicate with computer - please turn on 'Enable Biodirectional Communication' in printer properties. I go to control panel/printer/propertie/ports/ and I see Enable Biodirectional communication - the box is grayed out and I cannot enable it. Any suggestions?

go to your "printers and faxes" screen. In windows 7, it may just be called printers. You should see your printer listed there. right click on the printer and choose properties. At the top of the next window, there will be several tabs. click on ports. you should see a box that says Enable Bidirectional Support. put a check in that box. If that does not solve it, then contact lexmark about a Windows 7 driver.

I came up with a work around solution and for $9.99 I'll tell youo how I did it......

If your trying just to install the drivers, goto http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi

Type in your model ie:X5470 and you can download the drivers for your operating sytem right from the Lexmark web page. I asume the the machine is using USB to print, so download the driver and install it, then plug the USB cable from the printer into your computer and windows will do the rest.

Make sure that the "Enable Bidirectional Support" checkbox is checked: Go to "Control Panel"->Printers->Right click on the print Object->Properties under "Ports" tab, enable this check box if not already enabled. If you using vista make sure you do this from an "Admin" account, you may also need to select the "Run as Administrator" option after you right click on the "PrintObject".

To enable bi directional printing:
Open Printers and Faxes in control Panel
Right Click on the Printers Icon
Select PROPERTIES
In the Properties dialog box select the PORTS tab
Near the bottom there is a check box to enable Bi-directional printing
Make sure it is checked
Click OK to exit the dialog box
