All of the dash gauges and warning lights get power from the same pink/black wire. You should have a pink or purple wire coming from the sending unit in the tank that provides ground to the gauge.
there is two things : fuel gauge and dash fuel gauge. The fuel gauge in tank rated to 0 to 90ohms.disconnect wire at the tank take a variable resistor connect it to wire .read the dash gauge if it move as you move the resistor. if ok fuel tank gauge is at fault
in alot of cases it is a ground issue in the wiring system. would try moving them around some by the tank and see if this helps to find the one and yes in alot of cases you have to drop tank but not all the way. just enough to check wires. fuse that runs gas gauge runs all gauges....hope this helps some and good luck.
take the wire off the fuel sender and ground it, the fuel gauge should read full. if it does, the sender or the float on the sender is bad. if it does not read full, there is a bad wire or connection between the fuel tank and gauge. if you take the sender out, and the float is bad, these are easily available, you can hook up the wire and another wire to ground the body of the sender and you should be able to work the arm up and down and the gauge should read.
sounds as if the wires are not connected and the float is stuck a ground wire or power wire is not making contact remove and reinspect both .would love to hear how you made out but 1 st check the fuses to ensure the fuse is good
some are on a fuse link but most of them have the fuel pump and gauge sender on the pump, it has a wire winding to work the gauge msounds like the whole fuel pump gauge sender needs to be replaced, thanks robert b.
It sounds like your fuel sender unit is definately faulty,im not to familiar with chrysler but remove your backseat bottom just **** up where you would sit in the back and remove (not hard takes some muscle though) and see if you have an axcces door to get to the fuel sender unit on top the fuel tank ,the axcess door will have a wire harness going thruogh it and prob has some glue like material just peel door off then unplug connector to fuel sender unit remove bolts and replace make sure the float goes back in exact pos came out ,,,,if it doesnt have axcess under rear seat then yes tank will have to be pulled out and shop prob best suited to do the job
