SOURCE: Euro-pro iron steam genarator model # ep8001

I have a temporary solution that is working: Use WD-40 around the switch. Spray with the straw that comes with the WD-40. Let stand for a couple days, then turn the whole unit upside down and spray again, and let it stand that way for a couple days. If we could get inside, it could be more of a sure thing, but I had given up on mine and when I accidently hit the switch after siting for the last few days, , it came on!

Now for Sears to try to locate the tool that will open the case.

SOURCE: my shark steam iron is leaking when ironing

It is quite possible that this is a defect in the shark G1490F... I had the same problem and it was a crack in the water holding tank caused by tightening the two front screws (hidden) that hold the tank to the base... It seemed fine at first but after a full heating it developed a crack where it had been weakened when it was assembled... I suggest returning it or if warranty is up , throw it away and get something else..

My iron keeps going on to standby while using it. Any ideas as to why?

use the following ideas
As with many small appliances, regular maintenance makes a dramatic difference in how trouble free your electric iron will be. Even so, things can happen.
If the iron doesn't heat, make sure power is on to the outlet, check the electrical cord, and check the thermostat (see the Appliance Controls Fix-It Guide) and replace if necessary.
If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents (see below) and flush sediment out of the steam chamber (see below).
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical cord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat

If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle (see below).
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.
.
God bless you

Red light flashing

Blinking red light is a standby phase, its not going to get hot like this. Shake it or just start ironing, the red light will go solid and the plate will heat up. The red light will go off when the plate is hot enough. It will go on again (solid) after a few minutes to keep the plate at the right temperature. If you leave it standing around for a while it will begin blinking again (standby).

These irons are known for malfunctioning though, mine stays in standby and the plate never heats up! Hopefully yours is fine.
