Go into the device manager and uninstall the wireless adapter. Then click scan for hardware changes and let windows resinstall it. It sounds like a corrupt driver. Before doing so make sure you didnt hit the wireless button that shuts off the connection on the computer. :)

Hi,
you can do a quick troubleshooting on the laptop.
1. used another network cable and check that no pins are broken on the laptop.
2. go to device manager and remove the network adapter and reinstall it.

if this don't work. if you have a wireless router, you can connect to the internet over the wireless network adapter on the laptop.

good luck!!

Dear Sir, There is no provision of fixing my laptop to a wireless router. Can anybody advise how to convert this "laptop" to enable getting wireless connection of internet?

To connect to the Internet you need a few extra things aswell as a network or wireless card and install the LAN or wireless driver.
1. You need to sign up with an Internet service provider.
2. Connect a LAN cable from your computer to the DSL or cable modem
3. You need a DSL or cable modem and connect and configure the modem to inaccordance with your Internet service provider's instructions.
4. Install Internet Explorer if it has not been done.
5. If everything has been done correctly, when you open Internet Explorer youcan access the Internet. If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem then -
To connect to yourwireless router, the router needs its wireless settings to be configuredwith the SSID, encryption key etc., also the wireless cards in all thelaptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

I am wanting to run my (currently wired) laptop to be wireless (have bought a USB adaptor to do this), but also keep my main PC wired. I clearly need the internet on my PC to set up my DLink G ADSL2+. I...

You will need a wireless router with a built in switch. Most of them these days will have a built in switch. Here is a picture detailing what I am talking about.

You're internet connection goes into the ADSL port. Now, it will be broadcast WIRELESSLY through the antenna to your laptop. With this example, you could connect 4 more WIRED computers through the LAN ports. The built in switch is the division of the connection into the separate LAN ports.

I trust that this will help you greatly and look forward to your response!

How a conect to internet

METHOD 1 - Using Internet connection using DSL or cable connection.
1st. If you wish to connect to the Internet with a LAN cable or a wirelessly and if your computer doesn't have a LAN card or wireless LAN card you need to purchase a LAN card (to configure the wireless router) and if you want a wireless connection you will also need to purchase a wireless LAN card.
2nd. You need to select an Internet Service Provider in your area with a plan and cost to suit your requirements.
3rd. You need to decide what type of broadband connection you need, DSL or cable modem with or without a built-in wireless router, the Internet Service Provider can assist you with this.
5th. The Internet Service Provider can supply these items or advise you what make and model to purchase. They will also provide information on how to connect and setup your Internet connection.

METHOD 2 - Using USB wireless adapter that plugs into the laptop's USB port. It doesn't need a wireless router or a cable or DSL modem.
This is used mostly on laptop computers which allows Internet access anywhere the Internet Service Provide has a wireless transmitter. It uses the G3 mobile system.
This type of service usually costs more and again you need to select an Internet Service Provider that can provide the wireless coverage, the plan and costs that suit your requirements.
Installation and setting up information is supplied by the ISP.

Definition of the sound card, internet lan & wireless lan

The definition of the sound card, is a chipset integrated into the main board of your laptop, in order to provide sound to your built-in speakers, or to the headphone jack on your laptop. Internet LAN (or Local Area Network) is a port located either on the side or the rear of your computer, where you would plug in a Cable/DSL High-Speed Internet connection, using an Ethernet cable (also called RJ-45). Wireless LAN is the same idea, only instead of using an ethernet cable to provide you access to the internet, it uses a wireless signal or radio frequency, to connect to a wireless access point (usually provided by a wireless router in the area). More in-depth information can be found at the following links:
