I have no sound or a popping hissing sound coming out of the speakers.
The problem appeared after a lightning strike hit a nearby pole and
traveled in damaging other electronics.
My question is, it is worth fixing? When I removed the cover off the
amp, there appears to be no damage to any of the 8 internal fuses
(although I can't see through 2 of the fuses because they are not clear
glass).
If this problem + lightning damage = known excessive repairs, I'd
prefer to just forget it and buy a new amp. If I could expect
$100-$150, then it becomes more of a realistic option.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
It is common for a short term power surge to open up the internal fuse in the main power transformer. Without testing some components inside the unit, I really can't say for sure whether or not the unit is worth repair. I would suggest that you invest in a detailed repair estimate at an authorized Onkyo service center.
Keep us posted.

Nope. I mis-read your initial entry. If you are getting just a little noise like popping etc, then you have a digital processing problem. Depending upon the exact design, you MAY be able to get proper sound by dis-abling any surround processing. If not, then I would first look at the DSP board as the source of the problem. That board may exceed $200 though.

If the internal fuse was opened, then wouldn't all power stop to the receiver? Mine has a full digital display and runs as if ok...just no sound out of the amp itself. Is that right in your opinion on the internal fuse?
