The dishwasher has only been used once a day for three days. It is new and was purchase three days ago. It has smelled like burning rubber from the very first wash when it is running and for several hours afterward. The smell is gone by morning when I unload it. I run the machine after dinner and unload it in the morning...by morning the smell is gone.

is your dishwasher less than a year old? if so you need to call bosch and have all the gaskets replaced. they tried a new chemical to make the gasket but now have found that after the dry cycle the gaskets put off a strange odor like your discribing. ive changed several gaskets because of this

There are several possible causes.
First, make sure the machine is properly installed with the drain hose up in a loop or an air gap before going down to the drain. This is to ensure no dirty water or smells from the sour or garbage disposer backs up into the machine.
Sometimes nasty stuff gets trapped inside internal parts of the machine and inside the sprayer arms. It is normally easy to remove the sprayer arms for cleaning, on reasonably modern Bosch machines they can also be opened up for easy access.
There are also special dishwasher cleaning agents that you can use to perform periodic cleaning cycles. Some believe it is important to use rinse agents to minimize the problem, maybe it is worth trying if you don't use it.
If there is warranty left on the machine I would advise you to complain, there is a slight possibility there is something wrong in the machine for instance bad choice of insulation lining that have been known to emit foul smells.
Good luck with tracking down the cause of this!

Hello and welcome to Fixya.
It "smells" ( just kidding ) like you might have a problem with the way your drain hose is connected by your description.
It is crucial that your Bosch dishwasher have a siphon break or "hi-loop" installed in the drainage between the dishwasher and where it enter's your homes plumbing.
If it does not you can try different cleaners until the cows come home with little effect because the odor is coming from the drain line itself.
Was this unit installed by yourself or someone you know ? Or was it installed by a plumber/professional installer.
In the end it actually makes little difference, I'm just curious. I see professional installers as well as plumbers fail to include this crucial feature over and over.
Let me know. I'll watch for your post. If you are unclear as to what I'm referring to, check your installation guide that comes with all Bosch dishwasher's.
If you do not have any instructions regarding the proper drain/install I can email you a copy, but I would need your email address.
Good luck.
