I have a new Dell Inspiron 15r (Windows 8/touchscreen) that I want to connect my AOC 2036s monitor to as a second screen. I'm using a VGA cable plugged into the AOC monitor, with an HDMI adapter to connect to my laptop. When I plug it all in, my laptop recognizes the monitor and say it's working and all drivers are up-to-date, but the AOC monitor stays blank. When the AOC monitor is not connected, the screen shows a floating "no cable connected" icon, so I know the screen works. Sometimes, when the AOC monitor is connected "no signal detected" will flash for a split second about every 15 seconds, and sometimes I see my extended laptop screen flash on for a split second then the monitor goes back to black. Any idea what's wrong here?

first take off the speakers. you'll see the cable for the speaker. in this slot u can put a screwdriver an pulloff the silver front carefully. then you will see the screws at the top and the buttom. but its better to take off the stand before removing the front. there are 4 screws behind a cover right near the stand. without removing the stand u wont be able to remove the display/electronic

I've had a very similar issue on many Dell Monitors. Mine have been under warranty and they usually send me a new monitor, but I believe the issue lies with the power supply within the monitor.

If You really can't read anything on the screen this wont help. If you can make out a bit, then right click on a vacant area of your screen, then select "properties". On the Display Properties Menu, select "Settings", then select "Advanced". This will bring up a menu that shows your Monitor and Display Driver info. Select "Display", then select "Properties", then select "Driver", then select "Roll Back Driver". This will restore the old driver for the Display. If this doesn't help, go through the same menus again, and on the "Monitor and Display" menu select "Adapter" instead of "Monitor", and roll back that driver.
Best of Luck

Did you tell the laptop that you wanted to use the external monitor instead or in addition to the built-in display? There's a hot-key sequence you have to hit to engage the external display. In addition you may need to update the drivers for the HDMI. Some computers you can right-click on the desktop and select "Graphics Properties" and tell Windows which display port to use. Basically it sounds like a configuration issue where you're going to have to figure out how to tell Windows to use the HDMI port.
