Digital machine frozen. no buttons do anything....play button showing at 8. not flashing. need to save the first 3 msgs and am afraid to unplug from outlet and replug again.? help?

Find the button for day,and set the day, find the hour button, set the hour, and find the minute button and set the minute, then the phone will not flash CL

I had the F problem, I have the 29868 Digital Messaging System ( GE) In desperation today I unplugged it and unhooked the battery. When I plugged it back in the F was gone, when I hooked the battery back up the F stayed gone. Go figure !!!
