SOURCE: Connecting a Yamaha VX7 Subwoofer on my Yamaha HTR 5730 AV Receiver

Hello srqwrk,

You can connect the VX7 to the 5730 using an RCA Y cable like the one shown in the picture below. You get your one connection for the receiver and 2 for the VX7. These are available at any electronics store. Remember that the cable should be long enough to go from the receiver to where subwoofer will be placed.
Hope this helps. Let me know.

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: I'm trying to hook up my Acer Aspire x1700 to a

You can set the receiver to any source that uses a optical connection. Then make sure that whatever you select whether it be CD/DVD you also have the source connection set to optical too on the receiver setup menu.
That being said, after that is done you will need to set up the computer to output audio. That usually just involves changing the output mode on the computer and adjusting the levels...open the Acer audio managment application, choose the audio output mode to stereo or dolby digital and turn everything up on the computers level controls. Then, when you open whatever software you're going to use to play your discs you may also have to adjust the volume level there as well.

If you can find codes for Marantz receivers they might work. Yamaha makes Marantz like Pioneer to Premier & Onkyo to Integra.

Won't stay on

You're best bet would be to buy compressed air and blow out all dust and dirt that has made its way inside the receiver. If dust is clogging the fans it will overhead and shut itself off.

"200 watt speaker" is meaningless. What brand and model? Be advised that stripping parts from an all-in-one audio package for redeployment with 'standard' audio components doesn't guarantee compatibility or safe function.

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
