Loud noise when the dryer turns on

A loud screeching sound from your dryer could be caused by a few different issues. Here are a few things you can check:

1. Belt: A worn or broken belt can cause a loud screeching sound. To check this, unplug the dryer and remove the front panel. Look for any signs of wear or damage to the belt. If it looks worn or broken, you'll need to replace it.

4. Motor: A motor that is failing can also cause a loud screeching noise. You can check this by turning the drum by hand and listening for any unusual sounds coming from the motor.

A dryer kit contains the wheels that the drum turns on, new glides, to keep the drum in place, and a tension pulley for the belt. You may also need a rear bearing. I'd say about $60 in parts and an hour or two & you'd be good to go.

There are 2 wheels in the rear that the drum rotates on - one could be binding. The tensioner has a wheel, check it for rotation. Belt slipping? Check motor for operation - check that plastic blower isn't rubbing in its box. Dryers are easy to disassemble - check YouTube for procedure.

It could be a problem with the drum rollers or the jokys. How old is the appliance?

Sounds like the motor may be going bad.

Generally, in my experience, the loud screeching is caused by one of the fan motors or fan blades. There is a fan inside the cabinet (possiblle two, one on the freezer and one on the refrigerator side). Also, there is a fan underneath the unit near the compressor (probably in the back).

If the screeching is coming from underneath then pull the unit out from the wall and remove the cardboard cover at the bottom back. Now turn the unit on and check for where the screeching is coming from.

If it is the fan blade (hitting something) or the motor, you can remove these and replace them easily. UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING UNDERNEATH THE BACK OF THE REFRIGERATOR.)

The problem is usually caused by dry drum roller.
You need to remove the drum and lube or replace the rollers

the screeching noise is most likely caused by a slipping belt or pully. transmission probably needs fluid and filter changed.
