No sound from hdmi cable

Tried to play a blu ray disc AND a game but there wasn't any sound coming through using an HDMI cable. I thought it might be the cable so I installed a new one but still nothing. The video aspect worked perfectly but no sound. I used it the night before and everything worked fine. I hooked up the a/v cables that came with the system and regular output is working.

I'm having the exact same problem, and I can't find a solution anywhere.Like you said, no sound through games or Blu-Ray but it worked fine last night. Also, no sounds in the XMB either, ie. music and video...

Go to the Sound settings in PS3 and be sure it's listed as HDMI and not Audio Video Cables.

Output on TV may be set to surround sound system? Powerd On?

Can't get any sound when playing discs through a blu ray player connected via a hdmi cable and DVI adapter.

The DVI adapter stops the audio. Use the audio out ports on the bluray player to connect an audio pair cable to the tv.

My panasonic blu ray wont play space odyssey 2001 the tv says mode not supported, it plays the sound but no picture all other blu ray discs play as normal. Can you help?

I did solve the puzzle what I did was to, disconnect the HDMI cable and reconnected via component video and it worked well. I am still not sure why it wouldn't play with HDMI as all my other blu ray discs played OK.The TV is a Samsung 52in lcd.

My new BluRay player has HDMI output for both sound and video. My Receiver, however, does not have the HDMI inputs. Can I use HDMI direct to TV, and use Optical connection to receiver for audio? Sony...

Yes, you can connect the HDMI Cable from the Blu-ray Player to the TV directly and then, connect the Digital Optical cable from the Blu-ray Player to the Receiver.

42LG50 TV - Intermittant sound problems with blu-ray HDMI input

You say this doesn't happen on regular cable or when playing a regular DVD. Hmm. Is this Blu-Ray player connected by simplink? HDMI is a bi-directional format cable, so  there are cases in setups where your tv can send commands to your blu-ray player and vice versa. It could be a problem with your blu-ray player that it is sending for some odd reason a mute command to your tv. Or is processing a command that your TV interprets to be a mute command when playing blu-rays. Because if it was the TV itself chances are you'd see this when watching a normal DVD or on cable as well. Since you say you're not, it leads me to believe the issue lies with the blu-ray player itself.

No Picture on HDMI using Philips DVP5992.

You can try out by connecting the CVBS (Yello) out from player to TV and connect HDMI out from Player to TV. Goto CVBS input on Sony TV. Select set up and you should get the HDMI Video options availble. Try to change the resulution and check for Video on HDMI source.
Which disc you were playing PAL or NTSC? PAL should work for Europe.

NO SURROUND SOUND WHEN PLAYING BLU-RAY

Your amplifier should "downgrade" the signal to 5.1, even if the disc isn't using it. It is most likely a setting on your amp that may need adjusting for "types" of digital to accept on its input. If you can, set your optical input on your amp to "auto". This way it will automatically detect and switch for the proper incoming audio feed
