Your belt has a 1/2 twist in it. Pull the rubber mat, rotate the motor pulley through the platter holes, and look for the twist. Fix this until rotation no longer reveals a twist.Replace the mat.

SOURCE: Thorens TD 126 Mark III - Motor will not run with belt attached

Maybe next time you might turn it OFF before handling the belt.

Try this with power off - manually rotate the turntable and look for where drag might be. You should be able to feel the drag. It is possible you didn't route the belt properly.

SOURCE: Thorens TD 126 MK II Motor Pulley problem

There's either a lot of grease or something in the motor, or the motor control circuit has a fault on it. Try spraying the motor with Servisol Video 40 first. (available from Maplin UK or Radio Shack USA).

Thorens motor

From what I've seen on the web a motor for your model costs around $400.

Personally I would buy a new turntable.

Thorens Motor Replacement

All motors generally work the same, and 95% of them have the same power requirements. However, the only issue you might have is in the actual size of the new motor. If you can get it to fit where the old one sat, then your ok. If not, well, then it wont fit.

Motor replacement

If the motor can physically fit where the replacement motor use to be, then you should be ok. The TD145 and the TD125 share similar power requirements, but I am not sure about the motor size.

Thorens TD-124/II

Well, with a turntable that old, if it hasn't been restored it likely needs to be. Could be the power cord, the motor or the clutch.
