The defrost system has failed and is not de-icing the coil or, the door is not sealing tight or too much time open allowing excess humidity to enter the chamber, thereby overcoming the capabilities of the defrost system. The system has a defrost timer someplace, check to see if it is running. If not, you can probably advance it into a defrost cycle with a screwdriver. (turn the shaft slowly until a click is heard and the system stops) Allow 20 or 30 minutes for the coils to defrost, and restart with the screwdriver if it has not took off on it's own. If the timer is found not running, replace it.

Our Kenmore 253.28432801 is just over 5 years old. It stopped freezing, and the Sears tech says it has a leak and needs coils and a condenser. This would be $618, he suggested we buy a new freezer. Co

If it's holding at 28 degrees, it's not the coils. See if dropping the temp does any thing to lower the temp. If it does, fine. If not, most likely just the control needs replaced or just cleaned.

Ice cream not freezing hard

Ice cream needs to be at 10 degrees or colder to stay hard. Check your thermostat and move it colder if you need but give it 24 hours to stabilize to the new setting. Another thing you might check are the coils on the outside of your freezer. They will be on the back or underneath your freezer. What you need to look for is to see if there is any lint or dirt that might be built up on the coils. If they are real dirty they need to be cleaned off with a vacuum or an air hose if you have one. The dirt build up keeps the freezer from cooling efficiently and causes it to run warmer than normal. If all of that is clean and boosting the thermostat to a colder setting does not take care of it you might need to call a service tech. Hope this helps.

The freezer won't run so how us it that the compressor is very hot after several hours?

ice cream is always the last to freeze and a temp of minus -10 degrees is usually required to get it to get hard. if you put the ice cream in the door it will be especially tough to freeze. a good thermometor is a good investment as you can observe the temps. usually ten degrees or 20 degrees is what they run. yes they do cycle on and off as long as they hold temps thats good. the outside of the freezer gets warm because the hot compressed refrigerant is spread through piping near its surface giving up its heat of compression . setting the stat to max will freeze the ice cream eventually but utility bill suffers . good luck

My freezer does not keep my ice cream hard, yet it freezes meats, etc. without a problem. What is wrong?

You don't note whether or not you've adjusted the thermostat. Ice cream (and juices) requires at least zero degrees, if not minus 5 degrees, for storage. Meats, fish, bread, etc. can become rock hard at much higher temperatures. Try setting the thermostat lower.

Norlake freezer 6x6 not freezing enough

Normally freezers are kept at zero. Most health departments will not allow the temp to be higher than plus 10. If you want to store ice cream, you need to be at minus 10 degrees to minus 15 degrees.

let me know if I can be of any further help.

-40 F Freezer

MINUS FORTY DEGREES IS TOO EXTREME FOR A FOOD FREEZER. IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE, YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE CONTROL WITH SOMETHING ELSE. MOST STANDARD FREEZER CONTROLS ARE DESIGNED FOR TEMPS BETWEEN -10 AND +10 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

Whirlpool upright freezer AFG823NF-Thermostat not working properly

JennyT just trying to help with this. I assume this is a self defrost model. If so then is there an ice build up on the back wall? If so then the unit isn't defrosting. That is why pushing the Fast Freeze button is no longer working. You can get by however. Remove all the food from the freezer, put a vacumn in the freezer and shut the door. Turn on the vacumn, this will pull the warm air thru the freezer and in 30 minutes to an hour it will be defrosted enough to work until you can get someone to replace the 1 of 3 parts that the defrost system uses. The vacumn is what I use to defrost my nonself defrosting freezer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Master-Bilt Freezer doesnt cool enough

The only thing I could suggest is looking at the evaporator (inside coil / cold bit) and making sure it is not frozen over reducing the airflow through the coil. If it is then put it onto a couple of defrost cycles to clear the ice build up. Not sure exactly of this type but would assume you also have a sight glass on the external unit, you can check this to see if when running the sight glass is clear (fully charged). Another check is looking at the compressor and the larger of the two lines (suction) should be cold back to the compressor (this line is normally insulated). However I would suggest your best course of action is a good refrig. techy. Hope this helps.
