how would I get it to work if I am using a 12 volt car battery charger to test it? Thanks alot.

  • Anonymous May 25, 2009

OK. I did try what you suggested with the charger AND with my car battery. The only sign of power I get is the little red flashing light that appears when the faceplate is taken off. Ive always tested radios with a car charger, but this unit is complicated for me. There are also 2 green wires. One is light and the other is dark green.

You had mentioned that long green wire should be connected to a "seperate" ground. Soooo, using the same ground on the charger wouldnt work?? Im getting frustrated because I cant get this thing to work. Im wondering if I was ripped off. Could it be that I may need to connect it directly to my car?? And where is the antenna wire? I cant seem to find it. Some radios I remember in the passed had to have the antenna connected for it to work. Any more input would be greatly appreciated. I can e-mail pics if need be of the harness and wires. Thanks again for all of your help so far. I really like the radio and am praying that it works!!! Mike.

The pioneer avic n3 has a seperate brain system and there is a cable that hooks the two together its called like the 13 pin wire or something and once you hook the brain and the head unit together it will have the display and everything else

Well, for starters, The red and yellow should not be connected together. Red is the Accessory wire, which means it is connected to a wire that is only hot when the car ignition is in the on or accessory switch. The yellow wire is connected to a wire that is always hot. (all the time) . . as far as the screen goes... There should be a green wire, (real long) i believe it will have to be connected to a seperate ground. It activates the screen. Its supposed to be connected to the parking brake, that way the only time the screen is on is when the car is parked. . (safety issue, but can be by passed)

Hmm, you could connect your red and yellow wire to the hot side of the
charger, and your ground to the negative side....BUT I strongly urge
you NOT too....It would be better and safer on the radio if you used a
regular car batter.. A battery charger is gonna force power into the
stereo. They are meant to use power that is in storage, in a battery.
Im not sure how the stereos components would handle it being forced in.

you shouldnt need to connect it directly to the car. The little red light that is blinking is a security light.. its good that its blinking at lest your getting power...if you have the red and yellow wire both on the hot side of the battery charger and the ground wire on the negative side...you should get some kind of action from it. As far as the antenna, it will have to be plugged in to the back of the radio, but only to pick up stations...if it is disonnected, the radio will still work. There should be a power antenna wire...it will be blue with a white trace...it would only be connected to items such as an amp or your "power antenna".. . . How many solid black wires do you have? better yet, email me a pic of the harness as well as a pic of the backside of the radio... My email is [email protected]. . . We are gonna figure something out with it.. lol

ok, both black wires are grounds wires...are you grounding both of them?

  • Anonymous May 26, 2009
