If the laptop cannot detect the hard drive. This can be caused by a faulty disk controller, or a faulty disk drive.

1st. Reseat the hard drive and see if the laptop boots up.

2nd. Go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.

3rd. If the BIOS can't detect the hard disk, the remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer detects this drive as an external disk drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is in the laptop.

4th. If the hard drive cannot be detected then the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace the faulty hard drive in your laptop and install Windows to get an operating laptop again.

Cant find disk to boot

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

How to know what is the problem of my hard drive?my hard drive is not clicking..but my computer cant read it,my computer cant format it....but the bios can detect it.....how to if it???

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked. I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

My computer cant find my external hard drive

Sounds like the drive isn't working, but the next step is to try it on another computer. If it doesn't show up there either, then the drive is faulty.

I cant reformat my hard drive. (Windows XP)

Hi. There are several causes for this type of error. Either your Windows CD is corrupted, hardware is faulty (Motherboard, RAM, hard disk, video card, etc.). You may want to try to reformat your hard drive using another computer first just to isolate if your hard drive is faulty. If you can format it using another computer, try installing windows on that computer.

Cant format hard drive

The drive itself may have died. But, try this... with it installed on your pc, right click on my computer, then left click on manage.

When the computer management screen appears, highlight drive management on the left side of the window. Your drives will now show up on the right. Delete the partition and recreate it (by right clicking on the drive) and then try to do another format.

Hope this helps

HELP! My ps2 cant detect hard drive!

DGR8njct, Get a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE/2.5/3.5 Hard Drive Adapter Cable . This will allow you to access the Hard Drive from a computer USB port. It doesn't sound good for you. If you do not want to get an adapter like I suggest, you can install the hard drive in a computer as a slave drive, and see if you can access the data. www.playstationclinic.com
