Moved phone from home to Assisted Living apartment. Phone originally set up with Comcast but they couldn't use the modem so service was transferred to AT&T. Now when dialing phone it goes to a voice mail and not answering machine. AT&T says that it not AT&T it is the answering machine.
SOURCE: Call will not Transfer to Voice Mail
Typically you want your phone system to ring your phones (say extension 10, 11 and 15) and then if no one answers after so many rings the call is transfered to the port the voice mail is on (let's say it's port 16) The voice mail is set to answer right away but does not "ring" until the call is transfered to it. This way (at 4 rings) if a call comes in on line 1 and you answer after 3 rings but a call comes in on line 2 at the same time, the first ring on line 2 will not make the total = 4 and set off the voice mail. I would guess the port at your voice mail is not set to ring and nothing is set up to transfer calls to your voice mail. Did you set this up yourself? How did you program the phone system?
SOURCE: Arris Modem connected to Mediacom Service
I didn't have incoming calls for a year (didn't mind, no telemarketers). But I fixed today.
Check with your home alarm company. Turns out they can download a signal. No, it wasn't the computer's internal modem, it wasn't the phone/cable company or the arris modem.
No need for service call.

Easiest way take off back plate un hook battery wait a couple of minutes hook battery back up phone should find reciever on diff. channel
SOURCE: all incoming calls go straight to voice mail
Just go to call settings and then call divert. check settings. Maybe all calls are diverted to voice mails. Cancell all diverts. Then you are done.

Yes, it will automatically let you know when you have a voicemail. If it does not work, contact Comcast.
