Kenmore 90 series need to replace the inlet valve

I need to replace the inlet valve due to trickling cold water. Good pressure to the valve and the screens inside the valve are clean. Is this something a lay person can do or is this too hard to attempt. Thx annaramzi

This is actually a simple repair that the average Do-It-Yourselfer can perform with just a little guidance. The following link explains all the steps necessary to replace a water inlet valve on a Kenmore top loader:

If you have questions along the way, please let me know. A replacement valve can be purchased online at searspartsdirect.com, appliancepartspros.com, repairclinic.com, or pcappliancerepair.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing and excellent service, so shop all of them for the best price. Use your model number for your search criteria. If you do not wish to order on line, use the part number found at the sears or appliancepartpros website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a part that is commonly carried as part of the in store inventory. I hope this helps you.

Only a trickle of cold water coming into washing machine

If there is no other restriction, the water should flow freely from the hose into a bucket as a test. If good, then it must be a restriction in the solenoid valve. Some can be disassembled and cleaned but the valve assembly is not expensive to replace.

Kenmore front loader washing machine very long wash cycle

You need to replace your cold water, inlet valve.

Unplug the machine from the power source. Disconnect cold water hose. remove the top cover of the machine. You will see the cold inlet valve/solenoide where the hose fits.

Take note of where the wiring goes. You can get the part from your appliance parts outlet.

Refit, and you should be right to go.

Good Luck.

Cold water just trickles in. Water flow up to the

Hello, this is going to be a problem with your inlet valve, First thing to do is remove the inlet hoses from the valve and check the filter screen on both the hot and cold for debris blocking the water coming into the machine. If this is clear then your going to have a blockage inside the valve. Since these valves are factory sealed your not going to be able to clear the blockage, you should replace the valve. Hope this helps...Thanks for using fixya!!! Good Luck!! Mike

Kenmore 90 Series Washer : cold water fills at just a trickle:

your hot water goes through the water heater so contaminates settle in the heater. the cold does not, there is a screen inside the fill valve where the hose hooks to the valve on the machine. if this in not plugged then the fill valve will have to be replaced. because of the build up of contaminates..

Cold water good for a few minutes then slows to a trickle. Shut off for a few hours and cold water good again for a few minutes. Inlets are clear. Is this normal behaviour for a dying valve?

Yes, it will fail soon. it is beat to go ahead a order a new inlet valve assembly asap. the pressure sensors that are housed in the valve assembly are failing.

Cold water trickle hot water runs good

turn off water valves at wall, disconnect the supply hoses from the washer. where the hoses connect to the washer, there is usually a stainless steel screen/strainer inline on both the hot and cold inlet. corrosion on the cold side is pretty common. Menards, Lowes Home Depot stores sell the replacment screeens.

Kenmore 90 series washer no hot water

CHeck to see if the screens in the water valve are plugged. If not the hot water side of the valve went out. Replace the water valve and it will fix both the hot and cold problem.
