I have an Emerson 4GB MP3/WMA player. EMP513-4
The first time I plugged it into my computer, it showed up as an external drive. So I just did a drag-and-drop of my music directories. So far, so good.
I had bought a second one for my wife. I plugged her's into my computer, same thing, no problem.
I plugged her Emerson into my computer yesterday to upload some new music files. No problem, showed up as an external drive and drag-and-drop worked fine.
Plugged my player in - Huh? Now it only shows as "Audio Player". If I open "Audio Player", no files are there. I can Sync from Windows Media Player, it will add files. But the existing files don't show from Windows.
They are still in the player, I can see and play them. The new files are added in a new directory "MTPMEDIA" with subdirectories containing the albums I just added. I can navigate there and play them.
When I tried plugging it into another computer, again it only shows "Audio Player", and doesn't even show the files I just sync'd!
And there is nothing that shows up in "Safely remove hardware".
However, if I plug my wife's player into either computer, opening "Audio Player" still shows all the directories by artist and album. But- it does not show up in "Safely remove hardware" now, either.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Steve Greenfield

The problem is that you might have unplugged your device, before all of your songs could sync onto your device. Try plugging your device back up to your computer and sync the songs on there that isnt already on your device.
Some of the files are not being read to do incompatibility issues.
- if there is a specific folder music should be in, put them all there (this includes subfolders) - if it only supports certain lengths and characters, rename the mp3"s not being seen - try recoding the files if they don't work. maybe some are different and are unsupported. An example would be a wma file if your mp3 player doesn"t support the wma format.
1. Check you USB cable properly connected to the you computer, If cable break or not connected properly, It will show your cable not recognized.
2. If again these problem shows. go to,
My Computer - right click - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager - and Unistall you USB drivers - then again scan new hardware.
When you plug you ipod into your computer, itunes will open. Try plugging in your ipod while pressing ctrl+q to keep itunes from opening. Your ipod should mount as an external drive if you have this option enabled on your ipod. Browse to your files to see if they are there. If they are, that would amaze me. The reason they won't play is that ipods don't support WMA files as far as I know.
Convert these to mp3 using RazorLame or something that will convert these. Or... I think itunes will convert them to m4a if they are already in itunes. Then they will work on your ipod.
make sure that the songs that you uploading with your mp3 player is mp3 format, not wma or other, maybe your are loading a format that your player cant recognize.

Check out instructions below....
3. In MTP mode as long as the files are WMA or MP3, they can be dragged into the Media folder. Otherwise, they can be dragged into the Data folder (these files will not appear on the player).
4. In MSC mode, files/folders can be dragged/copied to the device.
Maybe you did option 3 and that's the reason your files not showing up. Check it properly and give me a feedback.
Not a problem. Microsoft Digital Rights Management (required by RIAA and record companies) enforces one copy per song only. Otherwise you are a pirate. Buy another copy of the song. "Arrgh, me matey," says the parrot.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I bought mine from Big Lots.
