Alignment failure My printer HP 7680 shows alignment failure. black and yellow print alternately, or half yellow, half black text. Please help.

  • ellenjoy May 24, 2009

thanks for the reply. The black print sometimes is still half black and half yellow. Do you have any ideas what might be causing this? I've tried cleaning the print heads both manually and through TOOLS on the printer. (I never found the small latch).

Open the access door at the top of the printer

Remove the ink cartridges

Put your finger in the upper left corner of the printhead ( inside)

you will feel a small latch rigth there push it upward

the printhead will loose and you may now remove the printhead

Thanks, PREM

HP ink jet 1200..prints only test page after replacing the yellow cartridge.test page only shows black and blue inks are good.need help.

Important thing: HP inkjet printers having self align technology & its aligns automatically after replacing the ink cartridge/s.In the process of align it will prints align page &it will read it on the model.
Suppose if you replaced yellow cartridge, as usually it will print align page, but if one or more cartridges not printing properly align will not completes. Results every time it will prints the align page when its switching on. Align will completes only when all cartridges/print heads are in healthy condition.. Check the alignpage find out which colors are not printing properly, replace it to over come from this issue. Now you decide what to do?..

The auto print head alignment prints ok. The Nozzle check from top to bottom prints as follows: 3eBK ok; 6C top half light blue - bottom half darker blue; 6C ok; 6M top half light pink - bottom half darker...

It sounds like your black (K) or Black/Yellow (KY) head needs to be replaced.
The problem appears to be in the top half of the black head.
Without knowing more (like what make/model the printer is) I can't help more than that.

A black vertical line is on each copy.

Try the 6500 driver. I have seen that allow text print but no graphics. If line disappears, reinstall 7680 driver. If line comes back, contact HP about updated drivers, check their website OR try to get your money back. I have never had luck with this series of AIO.
Good luck.

Printing yellow for black

Hi Jan,

Can you confirm that you are using a CIS or non-HP cartridges with this printer?

It sounds a lot like the printhead has reached a clogging point where sediment has built up in the black portion and loosens enough to printer a few lines before it re-asserts itself again.

Based on my experience of this printer, if you're using a non-HP delivery system for ink then you should consider replacing the black ink with a dyebase alternative instead of pigment.. Replacing the Black/Yellow printhead and running a number of test prints to purge the pigment ink in the printhead should then result in a clean and more reliable printout in future.

One other vector for problems is the cleaning area and I've found that this can become soiled with excess ink causing cross contamination within the inks of one printhead. As yet I've not found a reliable solution to counter this sort of issue.

Hope this gives some clues and hopefully some ideas of a fix.

Blurry text print with ghost image

Hey,
Your problem could be because of bad alignment. That means paper alignment and printer alignment don't match. There will be instructions in,your manual to properply align your printer.
Hope this helps.

When printing on my HP officejet pro L7680 the printed sheets has lines across it and the text is missing from the lined area

The HP88 printhead can dry out and cause clogging in the black part of the K/Y (black/yellow) printhead.

This has been a major problem for a few client schools of mine and for me in my attic space where air conditioning and/or hot dry air causes clogging.

You may want to consider purchasing a new printhead and an alternative black ink supplier (non HP) that uses Dyebase ink instead of pigment as this doesn't clog in the same conditions.

However, please note that if you do this it means you may lose your warranty (certainly on the printhead) and the printout won't be as clear for text as the black ink can "bleed" slightly into other colours. It has however solve the problem of clogging in one school that went through 5 printheads in two terms/semesters until we switched.

Ink Cartridge Alignment

On alignment sheet, do you see a line of yellow blocks?
And on next line do you see alternate block and yellow blocks?

(Without these, alignment fails)

If not, change the colour cartridge, re-print the page and repeat alignment.

Good luck...

Hp 7310

If the color cartridge doesn't print the color bars on the alignment page (either, redish pink, yellow or blue) then the alignment process will not finish. Same for the black. If the black cartridge is printing ok, then replace the color cartridge and try this again...
