The volume know is an encoder and they are known for failing in MANY receivers.

If you can handle a screwdriver and can UNPLUG the unit from the AC , Buy some De-oxit spray at Radio Shack open the case , look where the volume control is and spray Deoxit on and in the control. Rotate it a couple dozen times. See if that works. If not You'll need to have the encoder replaced. Theyre about $5.00-10.00

Ironic that this popped up today. I just worked on my dads Yamaha RX-V663 today. Have you tried to see if it works on the other speaker channels. Not sure how you have yours set up or how many speakers are attached, but my dads wouldn't work on channel A, I guess it burned up. I basically just moved the speakers over to the surround sound and channel B and everything worked as usual. Oh, and turned off channel A

Volume button sticks and raises to max level and cannot be turned down.

It sounds from your description there is a fault in the audio section electronics rather than with the button.

Why could my volume knob be stuck on max volume and not adjusting?

There is probably grease or dirt on the contacts inside the unit. Here's a video that shows you how to fix it:

Hope this helps!

Car stereo just randomly stop work doesnt allow me to turn up volume or change stations or set it to aux none of the buttons work but the stereos turns on.. what could it be???

Well knowing what stereo you have would help, but mine, the volume knob doubles as the settings knob if you press it. In some newer systems like mine, you should find a "back" button (small arrow) like on a cell phone. Trying using that to escape the settings mode that you might have activated.

Peavey 115 Low hum Low volume from input

The preamp section has a problem. It could be anything in the preamp but is OFTEN the input jack itself. They take a lot of abuse.

Also the insert jack contacts that forward the preamp to the power amp if no external FX are used can go bad.

Additional things are circuit board cracks caused by rough handling and also controls that have had the knobs mashed in which can destroy the potentiometers they are connected to.

I am having problems with the volume knob. The

That is a dirty pot switch.. The volume adjusting pot gets dirty.. Two things to try..

1.) With the unit off - spinn the volume min to max many many times at a rapid pace.. This sometimes will displace the debris in the pot..

If that does not work --

2.) Get some "tuner cleaner" in a spray can.. At Radio Shack or a similar store.. Lay the radio on its back so the volume knob is facing up.. Pull the knob off carefully.. Use short controlled bursts of the spray.. A few sprays and spin the knob min to max several times and repeat..

Good luck..

Time and radio will not display, it cuts off after a short time

hard to say without the cd player in front of me but it should be in your menu when you go to disp off press the volume knob (most common button) and hold it for like 5 seconds it should turn the display on if the volume knob doesnt work then you need to find out which button or knob you need to hold dow for a couple of seconds
