GE Profile Advantium SCB2001KSS Stainless Steel Electric Single Oven Logo

The GE Profile Advantium SCB2001KSS started beeping and displaying error code F3. I was able to set the time after holding one of the controls in for 3 seconds, but it reverted to the beeping and F3 error message very soon. I now have the power off at the fuse box.

Had the same thing happen out of the blue this evening. Oven was not being used. Couldn't get any button on control panel to work. Opened the door, took the microwave tray out, left door open and beeping stopped. Control panel worked - magic! Waited about 10 minutes and tried the microwave - no problem. So right now my Advantium seems to work, but don't know what happened or when it might happen again! BTW, this is a 18 month old unit that gets moderate use.

I have the exact same problem? and its Christmas day, what a time for the appliance to fail!

  • Anonymous Jan 03, 2008

Same F3 failure on a 6-month old oven. First occurred in the middle of a Speed Cook job, resulting in a locked control panel. Control Panel mysteriously unlocked itself the next day, but would not allow the microwave power level to be manually adjusted. Worked fine for a couple of days until 3 a.m. this morning, when the F3 alert and corresponding beeping forced us to turn off the Circuit Breaker.

Resetting the CB is the first troubleshooting step recommended by GE's help desk (conveniently located in India), but this had no effect. Now have to wait several days for GE to outsource a repair call to someone who can serve our area (apparently 50 miles from Washington DC is the hinterlands).

If GE will apparently warranty a replacement control panel for 5 years, I assume it contains a design modification making more reliable. If so, why not do the right thing and issue a recall?

I have a brand new GE Profile that I paid a fortune for and have only been able to use it for one month. It is displaying the wonderful F3 snafu and I need to get it fixed. Any suggestions of someone in the East Liberty Ohio 43319 area?

We have the GE Advantium model SCB2001KSS02. When our Advantium was 9 months old it failed with the F3 error and chirping. It happened while we were on vacation, we returned home to a chirping Advantium. We bought it through Sears, had tech come out he ordered parts and returned a week later. Come to find he ordered the wrong parts but thought he was able to fix it by cleaning some connections. This worked for 5 - 10 minutes and then errored out and starting chirping again. Luckily the tech was still here. Have now ordered (hopefully) the correct part and techs will be back in 1 1/2 weeks. I'll definately be purchasing an extended warranty on the Advantium either through Sears or GE. I love the Advantium when it's working but very disappointed it's having problems so soon, especially considering the price of it!

I have had the very same problem, F-3, beeping, locked panel off and on for 2 weeks. It happened again this morning. I'm fed up. Can't reach G.E., it's Sunday! This oven is a piece of junk, looks good but from what I've read from all the postings on the web, and my own experiences G.E. needs to recall it and deliver a product that works. I live in a brand new home built by Lennar. Lennar has an excellent reputation nation wide and builds quality homes. I love them, but hate this G.E. piece of junk. I know Lennar will ultimaely take care of me if G.E. doesn't, but really it's G.E. that needs to respond to it's clients. No wonder their financials took a hit this past quarter! Bring back Jack!!

TOday is 7/3/08--same exact problem--F3 and chirping-had to shut the power off--they can't come until next week. This thing is 2 years old--hope it doesn't cost a fortune to fix!

A year and half old oven and we are getting what sounds like the dreaded F3 error code. I reset the oven at the power panel, and all is well for an hour or so. The oven starts beeping again. It now shut off as well as our wall oven as they share the same circuit.

GE is supposed to come out this week and service, their website says a service call is $99.00 if they come out and do not perform the repair.

They will do me the favor of waving this $99.00 if I let them fix the problem.

Reading all of the other comments, seems like they have a real issue here that needs to be addressed.

I had the Advantium a month when I got the F3 code. I called GE who sent a repairman out a week or so later. He said the Sensor Pad was bad and had to order the replacement. A month later he came out to repair the unit. It's now about a year later and I woke up this morning to beeping from the Advantium which is again displaying an F3 code. I am just beside myself with anger at GE and this $2,500.00 piece of garbage!

same problem, f 3 code and beeping, ther needs to be a recall !

  • Anonymous Dec 13, 2008

Same F3 problem. It is about 8 months old.

I too have the GE Advantium. After 1 1/2 years later, it too started beepeing with an F3 code. I tried turning it off at the fuse box for 30 mins and back on. It seemed like thr problem went a way, but it came back about half hour later. There should be a recall for this!

    House Head,

Worked perfectly once I figured out which screws I needed to remove. The only thing that I would add is to use some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip on the contacts along with the eraser. Thanks for your insight. It is working fine now.

We have a GE Advantium model SCB2001KSS02, have the same F3, chirping problem on a 9 month old Advantium. It started while we were on vacation. We returned home to a chirping Advantium. The poor cats had to listen to chirping for several days until we returned home. Power is off at the breaker box to stop the chirping. I'm waiting to receive the replacement part and service to install it. I love my Advantium when it's working but VERY disappointed that it stopped working so soon. I'll definately be purchasing an extended warranty on my Advantium since I have very little confidence in it's quality and how long before the replacement control panel fails too.

Well right now I'm looking for how to just turn off the beeping. Our GE Profile isn't the same model, but it does the same thing. Found a fix that works, but we have to use it every few months when the keypad locks again. Here's the solution to getting it running again:

unscrew and take off the faceplate exposing the motherboard and chips/wires. unplug/unsnap the wide, flat power cord attached to the digital face. Take a pencil eraser and use it to clean the metal contact points where the power cord meets the display (the ones that are visible once u unplug the cord). Put it back together and tadaa... it works again.

My guess is that it gets some sort of buildup over time that u just have to clean off. Anyway, good luck. Hope this helps

Sorry not to have reported back earlier, after the fix.... Our F-3 error was indicative of a bad display panel. Very easily diagnosed and fixed,. Part had to be ordered but it came in 2 days and then it was a half our job with a cost of $200. Went thru GE service and there's a 5 year warranty on the replacement part (vs. the 1 year on the original unit). Sorry I don't have better news for everyone - once this starts going it's only a matter of time before it goes completely wacky, and shutting off the circuit breaker is the only way to stop it from chirping (muting doesn't work it turns out).
Good luck all!

I know what you mean. I was cooking with this appliance tonight and suddenly it displayed an f-3 code. My advantium oven is less than 8 months old. Not sure how this happened or how to fix the problem. In order to sleep tonight (the constant beeping) I had to shut power off at the breaker pannel. Is this representative of the the type of quality that GE stands for???? I am sooo frustrated. I cook with my advantium oven all the time and love the dual abilities of this appliance. Like I said this is brand new and to have the f-3 code which apparently (from what I read) is a failed key pad. I am very dissapointed and am begining to think about pulling my stock from this company!

Have -F3- on the screen and nothing works

Hi,

**FIRST; shut off the breaker or unplug the unit before going any further please**

"F3" on most GE ovens describes a fault with the oven sensor or sensor circuit. Ohm out the sensor. It should read approx.1100ohms. @ room temperature.

The other possible faults are a bad solder on the control, a pinched or severed wire from control to sensor.

Having said all that, 99% of the time, its' a sensor. most common GE sensor is part # wb21x5301.

hope that helps

good luck

GE Profile Advantium oven (stainless steel)

spray a little oven cleaner on a wet rag and wipe. Rinse really well afterwards. Do not spray directly in oven. It could get in the holes.

F3 code and beeping

F3 - F4 Open oven temperature sensor (circuit) (over 2700 ohms) or, shorted oven temperature sensor. Could be a result of:
· contamination on terminals
· pinched wire in oven temperature sensor circuit
· cold solder joint on control. · Disconnect power to range and remove oven temperature sensor connector from control.
· Measure oven temperature sensor resistance at oven temperature sensor connector (take care not to damage terminals in block) - Should read 1100 ohms at room temperature (approx 72 degrees F).
· Measure each oven temperature sensor lead from connector block to ground. If shorted, look for pinched or cut wire in oven temperature sensor circuit.
· Check connector terminals - Look for deformed or corrosion on terminals. Repair or replace.
If all above is ok replace control.
