Unmountable boot volume or do I need another hard drive ?

I have an Dell Optiplex GX280 desktop,with 2.4GHz,40GB,keyboard,mouse that I bought online thru ebay in 2007 but has no installation cd's or windows XP Pro Cd and now I'm getting this blue screen telling me a problem has occurred & either I re-install windows xp pro or disable BIOS memory options like caching or shadowing.

    blue screen states a problem occurred windows shut down but i have no windows cd's or a friend with anything on dell optiplex gx280

    what is the exact error that you are getting? It might be possible to save your installation without wiping the whole thing.

    Does the PC have an XP license on the case, side or back?

    if it does, you can borrow a cd from a friend or family and install XP using the license.

Start machine press F8 repeatedly
If it lets you into Safe Mode then go to Programs, Accesories, System Tools, System Restore and try to roll the machine back a week or so
If that does not work you need to find a buddy with a copy of the software and reinstall providing your machine has the Windows sticker on the back or sides giving you the key code

you are probably using a usb keyboard....plug in the ps2 keyboard(the round one) and it will pick it up.Some wont have the correct drivers for theafterhourspc_1.jpg usb until it boots. PS2 LOOKS LIKE THE ONE ON THE LEFT AND USB IS ON THE RIGHT.

Check that batteries are charged and installed properly.--make sure driver disc is installed if applicable- check instructions as some wireless suites need you to push a small connect button to initialise them . Also try shifting the usb conector into another USB port if it is notm getting reconised.

hey if you boot into bios and you need to make sure that the computer will recognize the hard drive and that the jumper that is on the hard drive is set as either master or slave depending on what you want than make sure that of the parameters are right and apply it. than restart the computer and than see if the cd will now boot and you should be able to continue from here ok
