I would look for other leaks. If you are sure it's leaking at the dipstick tube, there is normally an o-ring where the tube presses into the engine. In general, this is an odd place for a leak, as ther eshould be no oil pressure in the pan (where the tube terminates) and unless the engine is overfilled with oil, the tube end shouldn't be immersed in oil to leak. IF there is pressure in the oil pan, that generally indicates bad rings. I have seen engines where the oil dipstick actually pops out of the tube under pressure when the engine is running due to pressure in the oil pan from blow-by at the rings.

SOURCE: need to replace turn signal switch 93 cadillac deville

First do you have a sterring wheel puller. Can't remove the steering wheel without one. Quite an involved job including snaking the electrical connector end through the steering column. I wouldn't recommend it to the novice

your water pump may need to be changed. have a trusted mechanic check it. the water pump is connected to the drivebelt of your 4.9 l engine, and if thats where the sound is coming from you can be pretty certain

How do you know which head or gasget is blown/

Try this to see if helps you figure this out. Try filling up the radiator with water. Start your engine with the radiator cap off look for bubbles the bigger the bubbles the worse the leak. Look for tan colored oil on the dipstick. When oil mixes with water it turn a creamy tan color.

1994 Cadillac Deville loosing a lot of oil. No oil residue on tail pipe, not smoking, no oil in antifreeze...

Does it drip off onto the driveway? As in oil pools?

You first need to determine if the oil is blowing out when the engine is on high revs or if it happens anytime the engine operates. On my 1996 Mark VIII it ended up being the valve cover gaskets, but at first it was such a small leak that it would only blow out when the engine was at high revs. I eventually found the problem by steam cleaning the engine and then using kitchen floor to spot the leak.

I have white smoke coming from the tail pipe of my 1996 Cadillac DeVille. Not a blown head gasket, no water in the oil. Could it be my pistons or just needing new seal. Am I burning oil or have an oil leak...

hi... it all depends on the colour of the smoke... usualy blueish smoke will mean it is oil burning and your piston rings may be getting worn if it is black then it might be running too rich etc.. a little bit of water is fine infact usualy it is a good sign that your engine is not running rich or lean so it is pointing towards oil seals... also if it was running rich it would probably do it more when it was cold

Think I may have overfilled my oil in my Cadillac Deville 98. What would be the symptoms, and is it fixable?

usually no immediate symtoms, but it can cause oil to get past the piston rings, causing it to smoke,and/or blow oil seals in the engine.how much over is it?the space on the dipstick between ADD & FULL is about 1 quart.if its overfull by a quart or more, drain some out,or take it in for an oil change.they'll drain it all and fill it properly.

I have a caddy that smokes when i am driving it from the back of engine

could have two problems smoking could be burning oil or an oil leak. If the car doesn't burn oil than my guess would be that you have s leaky valve cover gasket that is allowing oil to drip to the exhaust system

99 deville overheats

check if there is visible smoke coming out of the exhaust after using your car for like an hour. If there is visible smoke your car's engine is probably leaking oil from the inside. You need to have your engine rebuilt. If the theres no visible smoke, try to check if your car is loosing water from the water reservoir really fast. Also, check if your radiator fan is still okay.

Two cylinders are low on compression on a 1992 Cadilac Deville, does this mean it needs a new motor or can this be fixed?

this can be caused by a number of things bad rings  leaking valves or  cam lobes that  have worn  u can check the rings by pouring a couple cap fulls of oil into the spark plug hole then do a compression check  if the cylinder gains compression then its most likely the rings and time for a rebuild if it stays the same  its more likely to be in the valve train or cam and lifters     hope this helps  oil consumption and blueish smoke from exhaust is a good indicator that its rings
