Hooking a PC to your laptop's screen

I fix computers for a living, and I was wondering if there was a way to hook up a PC tower that I fix, to my Dell XPS M1330's laptop display. The laptop has a VGA input, and I have a cord that is VGA Male on both sides. I'd rather try to figure this out then put another computer screen on my desk just to fix a computer.

Unfortunately you cannot use a laptop screen to view output from other computer sources. As you are surely aware, you may plug another monitor into the VGA plug on the laptop to view the laptop's output, but the plug is only for the laptop's output.

Nice thought, though.

I have an old Dell DE051 tower and I have it hooked up to my TV via VGA cable. When I turn on the tower, the dell loading screen appears and then moves onto the Windows XP loading screen. The problem...

Could be the pixal setting on the tower is too high for the TV? Can you change the video card settings to the TV Pixal rating? You could have a bad video card. Good luck.

Foster dog knocked my computer off desk. 2/3 of screen is nothing but lines. Are these repairable or should I buy new screen....and are they easy to replace?

Hi:
The most likely cause is the LCD panel is damaged, but you should verify that the laptop works ok, by hooking up an external monitor and see if you have a good display on it. If so, your laptop is worth fixing. A new LCD panel is approx $100 + installation, so it is probably worth fixing!

He display through a projector is much reduced from the projector

The screen resolution on your data projector may not be able to display the screen resolution set by your laptop.
Adjust your laptop's screen resolution say 1024X768 first then adjust it up or down to see the effect.
You can do this from the Control Panel - Display - Settings. There is no need to reboot the laptop for the settings to take place.
