Microsoft VX-5000 Webcam

I have just installed my VX-5000 webcam but I can't video call on webcam. In fact, I can't even change the audio/video setting as the button for it is greyed off.

Yup I don't have a problem with that but the other party can't hear me. It seems like it's the microphone that's the problem.

    vista

  • blinman May 23, 2009

It's already on enable. I had that check before posting my problem.

By the way, I can see myself only. Not only can I not see the person on the other end, they can't see me as well.

thru your speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, right-click on it and choose playback devices. Click on the recording tab and it will show you the microphone.

Click on the microphone and then click on the properties tab. Where it says device usuage, choose to enable it and then click on Apply and then OK.

From that point you should be able to control the volume for the microphone so people can hear you.

Thru the program your using for the microphone, see if there is a way to change the volume thru there just to make sure the program isn't messing up the microphone.

If you still can't get it to work then we know the microphone portion of the webcam is definitely defective but at least in this way we will havve verified it properly.

Microsoft lifecam vx-5000

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'
