The problem is that your carbeurator is gummed from from sitting idle all winter with gas in it. Get an aerosol can of carbeurator cleaner, remove the air filter and give the air intake two squirts of carb. cleaner. Then start the mower. When it stalls again let it sit for an hour while the carbeurator cleaner works at dissolving some of that gum. Repeat the process until the mower runs again. Sometimes there is so much junk in the carb. that you have to remove it and soak it in cleaner for about three hours, and then rebuild the carb. with the proper little kit. hopefully you won't have to take this step.

Next fall let the mower run out of gas and stall then you won't have the gum in the carbeurator in the spring.

I have a craftsman mower model no 917.28922 that blows blue smoke after engaging blade and is using oil..maintained and kept very clean after every use...what should I check, has new spark plug.

If your maintenance did not include changing oil each season that made the engine wear out sooner. Clean on the outside does not help the inside. You can get a price on rebuilding the engine but I have a feeling that you can replace the mower for not much more. Use it till it dies if you plan to replace it.

Hi I did a tune up ,changed and checked every thing I done ..too I changed the oil ,oil filter ,gas filter air filter ,got a new battery changed the plugs there new too...even a new belt new key ...but...

Spark and gas??? Must have both. Pull spark plug wire and check for spark. If you have spark, check gap on spark plug. Check the bowl on carburetor. loosen bowl screw to see if gas is coming out. If you have gas coming out, carb needs to be taken off and cleaned or rebuilt.

Tecumseh engine right? Pull the float bowl off the carb. I suspect some water contamination. while it is off clean the jet holes in the nut. They may have varnisized gas in them. contact me with any more questions.

My MTD Yard machines riding mower won't start.

Probably dead gas from sitting too long. Dump it out & put in fresh gas.Could have moisture in it. Pull out spark plug & crank it over several times after putting gas & let it sit a while to dry out or blow it out with compressed air. It should go.

Cant get 5.5 hp Briggs and stratton to start after cleaning out fuel lines tank and carburator changed plug it ran for a sec then died again what now

hello sir, mower will not start or run, does it have good spark, good compression,or only runs on full choke, engine surges up and down, are you getting fuel to the engine if not try this, your carb. is clogged up here is what you can do for a simple repair and other things if you want to, you will need a new air filter, spark plug, oil, if you want to a new blade also ,sears has a mini tune up kit that you can buy. now for the carb, empty fuel tank, place mower on side to where carb is facing up place a rag under carb to catch excess fuel, remove the bowl nut and bowl careful of the gaskets, now spray carb cleaner in the small port holes in the carb steam in the middle of the carb until clean, now spray the bowl nut holes until clean there are three, after cleaning put bowl on the same way you removed it with dip towards front of float, put bowl nut in, now while you have mower on side drain the oil remove filler cap to drain, put pan under spout, mower holds 21 o/z of 30 wt oil,you can remove blade to get sharpened or put new one on,to remove blade put a pair of vice grips on the body where the blade can stop and not turn it is usually a 9/16 or 1/2 socket, put blade on add oil,add new and fresh gas,you should be good to go,hope this helps, what i am telling you here is what i would do if it was here in the shop, any comments welcome, thank you.~~

Lawn mower won't start with out being jump started . Changed battery. After jump starting mower and while mowing engine stalls while mower deck engaged . If mower deck is shut off before it looses...

HI jLAFORCE 1.
Other possible causes include: Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn't work, you might need a new fuel filter.

Poulan 6.75 Lawn mower will not start

Remove spark plug, clean and dry. Replace plug. Remove air filter. Spray WD-40 into carb opening; one second blast. Turn over engine, (pull handle). Engine should start briefly and run for 3 seconds.  If not, you are not getting spark to spark plug. If engine starts, you have a dirty carb and you can buy a rebuild kit from manufacture.

My lawn mower doesn't start and when it does, smoke comes out of exhaust

you may need to change the oil and/or empty the old gas and replace it with new.

This thing happens when you don't take care of your lawn mower for too long.
