TV made a popping sound and then no more picture. We replaced the bulb and still nothing. The red light blinks three times (25 sets of 3) before the light stays a solid red. Any ideas???
To all we found the answer ourself at sony.com, We did this also plugging it in to the wall outlet to let it do a power reset, (would not reset while plugged into the powerstrip) after it did a power reset it came on and is working great...
The self-diagnostic function of the projection TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue. As per the two examples below, some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
If the STANDBY light flashes three times in sequence, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue. If the STANDBY light flashes four times in sequence, the TV may be overheating. To resolve this issue, ensure that the back of the TV is well ventilated.
If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection TV that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the TV to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
Unplug the TV power cord from the electrical outlet. Let the TV remain without power for 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the TV is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the TV.
Turn on the television. NOTE: If the TV does not turn on immediately, the fan may need to finish its cycle. This is part of the cooling process for some projection TVs and is normal operation. After the fan turns off, attempt to turn the TV on again.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required . Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center. 3 times standby red light blinking shows that lamp cover has not been placed back properly after lamp replacement. Make sure lamp cover, (the first thing that you removed to replace lamp in tv) is fixed securely then turn tv On.
The red light means that the prjection bulb needs to be replaced. They ony last about two years depending on hours of use. The low popping sounds as well as fan noise is normal for the Sony projection TV. You can Google the owners manual by entering the brand, model etc. and ask for the owner's manual. I had to go to several sites but eventually found it.
Ths 5 blinks usually indicate an AKB problem. There is a break in the video path. I'll look up your specific model and post the results here. Please update this if you wish to attempt the repair yourself.
If you have not changed the lamp in the 4 years you have had the tv you will need one soon if not now. is sound from tv or receiver, when the lamp dies usually no sound from tv. If you have sound from the tv try unpluging power from wall to reset and try again
