I came home after leaving for a while and had some clother in the dryer - they were still damp but when i closed the door and tried to restart the dryer it would not stay on after I released the toggle switch. I tried holding it on for a few seconds and verified the tumbler was turning but then it started to smoke from the back and I unplugged unit. Any ideas?

Disconnect power from unit. The motors centrifugal switch is stuck in the on position. The switch mounts on the motor and when the start button is pushed during normal operation it powers up the motor just long enough to set it in motion. Spring loaded counterweights fly out and apply power to the run windings of the motor. The heater element is also energized as well. If it was me I would tear down the dryer and clean it up. OIl the switch, get it unstuck and retry. To get inside the dryer:you yank out the filter first.Remove the 2 screws in the filter
housing on top. Then use a putty knife to pop the top. Remove the screws
holding the front panel on. VERY IMPORTANT! Raise the front up an inch
before pulling forward or the panel clips will break! Some models have
a panel on bottom. If they do then this panel must come off first. Then
you remove the door springs and back off the screws holding down the
bottom of the door panel. Then pop the top and remove the screws on top
to get the panel out of your way.
Take the idler loose and get the drum out. Get a vacuum and clean the moter and inside real good. Oil the switch and get it free. This is not very difficult.

Replace the motor, the run winding is shot.It is not hard to replace the motor. The blower has reverse threads(righty loosy). The motor has a quick connect(no wiring needed). Yank out the filter first.Remove the 2 screws in the filter
