Will Not Boot/Keeps Rebooting

My laptop has Windows XP and it randomnly shut off one day. Now, when I go to turn it on it loads the compaq screen then it goes to a black screen asking me to start windows: safe mode/safe mode with networking/safe mode with command prompt/last known good configuration/start windows normally. However, I have tried each of those choices and it brings me to the screen to load windows then just goes back to the initial compaq screen. I've tried f10 Setup but nothing there has helped.

It sounds like your computer may be over heating, does the bottom of the laptop get hot when its shutting down?

Do you receive a blue screen on your compuer at all (BSOD) before the computer shuts down.

When you are rebooting the computer Windows is asking you how you would like to restart windows due to the sudden stop of the operating system.

    Always choose start Windows Normaly..

However I would not keep starting your computer backup if it's shutting down. That usualy means that there is a problem :-)

Now it could be many things that are causing your computer to reboot from bad memory, overheating, software, spyware, viruses battery problem and so much more. I will need some more detailed information such as what software your running, does this always happen say when you try to load a game, (could be power supply) or everytime you open firefox or Internet explorer (could be spyware)

If you can provide more detailed information I am sure that we can come to a solution for you.

Where do you live, if you live in Canada and need a service location let me know, we have service areas all over Canada.

UNMOUNTABLE______BOOT_____VOLUME ***Stop: 0 X

It could be a problem with the harddrive and memories ,if you enter the DELL bios setup page when the computer starts up does it have an option to test the hard drive if so test it.
Also if you have two memory sticks then try with only one and vice versa.

Try booting with another boot CD like the ultimate boot CD it has some hard drive testing tools too.

ASUS eeePC 900 Keeps rebooting at XP load screen.

You're computer is booting that's not your problem. Its just not booting into Windows which is a different subject, so a boot disk will not do you any good. You have some corrupted files at the Windows end not the start up end. The only way to correct the Windows corrupt files is to use a Windows disc. So you'll have to buy/borrow a portable DVD/CD player and a copy of windows. Once the Windows disc loads then its just a matter of clicking on "repair" when the disc asks..that one of the drawbacks of netbooks..If you have any questions let me know..

My sony laptop with windows xp home media center keeps rebooting

When XP gets into the rebooting mode, you will have to run a chkdsk or do an XP repair. You will not lose your data. But you do need your recovery cd or a WinXP cd.

Take the Windows XP disk. Boot from it, then DO NOT select F2 (automated system recovery) but continue through the procedure until you get to the point where you can choose between installing Windows XP and entering the Recovery Console. Once you get into the Recovery Console, do chkdsk and fix potential errors on your disks! Type chkdsk C: /R at the prompt in the recovery console.

XP repair
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your Applications or data; it just reinstalls the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.
Lastly, your drive can be taken out of the unit and set into an enclosure or adapter. The data can be saved, the your hard drive can be formatted and programs and data reinstalled.
Good Luck,
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Windows xp pro keeps rebooting after loading mup.sys

Can you boot into safe mode? If not then the reason it continually reboots may not be software. I've seen a number of laptops that exhibit the behavior because the CPU is overheating. Intel CPU's shut themselves down before they burn up. If you're comfortable opening the laptop you might try cleaning out the CPU cooling system. They tend to get clogged up with dust so that there is no airflow to cool the CPU.

BSoD, Garbled Screen, Boot Failure.

If you are getting garbage on the screen before windows tries to load the laptop probably has a bad motherboard.

It's possibly only the video output is going bad on it, try hooking it to an external monitor and see if you get the same weird stuff on that screen.

Good luck, let me know how it goes

Can't boot up laptop

If your Usb port works, then the mobo is working, so possible graphics problem. Try booting up in safe mode(normally pressing F8) on boot up then highlight 'start windows in safe mode', to see if Windows will load with only minimal drivers, if so restart again, pressing F8 again, but this time highlight 'start windows with last known good configuration' Doing any of these 2 things can be done in any order, either last known good config first or safe mode.
