I have an Evesham desktop that has had various upgrades but is now running painfully slowly on all programmes. It has an AMD Sempron 2600 processor, 1012 MB RAM, MAXTOR 6L 250 HDD (about half full). It runs Windows Prof SP3 and I also use Windows Defender, Spybot Search and Destroy and AVG 8.5 Free Anti-Virus. Start up takes about 10 minutes and the CPU seems routinely to run at almost 100%. If I try and back up using Norton Ghost, it takes about 12 hours and I can do nothing else at the same time. It does not need a Defrag and I run CleanUp weekly. HELP!
Run the defragmentor...try uninstalling unwanted applications and softwares..make sure you use only original antivirus software and get your desktop cleaned..

It might be best to upgrade your computer to something newer. You can even find something used on www.craigslist,org or www.ebay.com. I wouldnt put any money into a 10 year old computer. If you really want to upgrade to USB 2.0 - you'll most likely have software issues to overcome, too. Without knowing the full situation, it wouldnt be right to advise you to put money toward upgrading anything on your computer. Good luck.
If your computer starts running slow, it does not necessarilly mean that you need to replace your HDD. TRy reloading windows, and upgrading your ram first. The harddrive you use has little effect on the actual running speed of your computer.
The type of ram you will be looking for is DDR SDRAM (186-pin). Each stick can be around 128MB to 1GB. However, you should look inside your computer first to make sure you can upgrade it and know how many slots are available for you to upgrade. If you do have a manual, check the Qualified Vendor List to see if the memory sticks are compatible.
Hi.
If you don't have audio drivers supplied then you have a couple of choices.
1. Download and run a PC audit programme such as PC Wizard which should identify your motherboard and possibly your audio device http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
2. Remove the side cover of the PC and check the make and model number of the motherboard.
Once you have the motherboard model go to the manufacturers site and download the relevant drivers.
Are you asking about upgrading your graphics card?
Aslong as you get a graphics card that is AGP connection you will be fine.
They dont make AGP graphics cards anymore, but one of the last ones made (and most powerful is the Nvidia 7950 AGP) can be found all over ebay.
Its not a cheap card though, and a later edition nvidia 6 card would be just as good for you, such as an Nvidia 6800 AGP graphics card
Just add an identical stick in the slot next to it then you have 2x512mb, find your motherboard model to see what type of ram it takes as WO00980373 brings upno answer it may be ddr or ddr2 ram and you must get the right speed eg 400mhz 533mhz.BT Home hub is fine ..if it works why replace.
Yours windows installation is corrupt. If u know how to install windows u can rectify the problem with the repair option. If u don't know call a technician.
To repair please do the following:
Go to bios setup and select cd/dvd as the first bootable device.
Put the Windows CD in the drive and save settings and exit.
Installation process will start copying files to hard disk and after sometime computer will restart. Here DON'T PRESS 'R" for repair; but continue. Continue till you get to the Terms and Agreement where u have to press F8. The screen that comes after this will have an option to "Repair". Select this option. Some more files will be copied to the hard disk. When asked for restart remove Windows CD and start computer. Your windows will be repaired with all the data and programmes intact.
The Voyager would have been even faster with more than the supplied 512MB of memory - you can't upgrade this yourself, but Evesham will supply 1GB as standard for an extra £89. http://www.evesham.com with the limmitted memory capacity, i would definitely turn off all unused open programs and services you dont need in windows. you may do this and realize you don't need more memory.
