TV acts like it is turning on then shuts off then repeat, repeat
I was watching TV and heard a loud pop thru the speakers, the cable box reloaded and the TV shut off. I tried to turn the tv back on and it acts like it is turning on a green light next to the power red light (labeled Timer rec) blinks a few times then the tv shuts off and repeats the process over and over without ever turning on (black screen). What the damage?

When my lamp died the bulb literally exploded. That may be what you heard. Have you check the lamp? If the lamp is ok, the lamp's ballast or power supply might have blown.

* Brand and Model for specific information.
* Pops, cracks, static on audio can be caused by;
* Blown speakers (most common). Volume turned up too high for speakers to handle power. Replace speakers. (test using a good speaker to confirm)
* Older amplifiers have problems with old style rotary knobs. Check and replace. (Though it may be better to upgrade to a digital TV with better audio.)
* Digital TV, including smart TV are still able to blow out speakers (and amps) if turned up to loud. Check warranty if the MFR will cover this type of failure.
* check the other audio outputs to other devices; IE VCR, Digital recorders, Head phones. Check the "line out" audio if signal is good.

Sounds like a possible power short, especially if you have speaker cables connected to the receiver but not to speakers -- leaving the ends more likely to short (even via a single thin copper strand across a millimeter or two, when the voltage peaks). The receiver's message says "Check Spkr Cables," right? (They do mean the Speaker Cables!) Most receivers have a built-in power overload detection/protection shut-off circuit to save you from such mistakes.
Your TV output is a pass-thru from the coax cable then. The only solution- turn the volume down, or unplug them.. Or get a cable box. A VCR may work as a temporary cable box, and if you have a remote for it, you should be able to just turn off the audio at any time with a VCR remote. (unless the VCR also has a pass-thru only audio output)
If you have a Sony DLP, then the loud pop you heard is your lamp. The lamps last approx. 4K-6K viewing hours. Read your manual for replacement part number to reorder and very simple to replace yourself.
well dvd player is only 480 i ok not 720 unless its blue ray so dont even do that coupont cables usallly 480 also with comcast outs do u have hd then use one with hdmi outs ok coxal digtal cable works great also better rcas
if you have a cable box run the subwoofer thru that . should work fine but you will have to turn off sub to kill volume as its running thru cable box not the audio of the tv
Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds?
yes & it is common problem.
And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers?
not at all.
The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV.
they are right that your problem is not due to tv.
it is due to cable box/service?
yes
but not defective it reqires to change the way you have connected tv to cable.please call tech to get it connected in such a way so that you do not get popping sound when you you put off cable box.
