Loud pop from surge protector that results in intermittent sound on Samsung 46" tv

This surge protector is supposed to help with power spikes to all my components. The electricity has not gone out recently in my neighborhood. The "pop" is very loud as if someone knocked on a wooden surface with their knuckles just one swift time. Recently, it has kicked cable receiver power off. Sound has always returned, but I'm very concerned. Please help. Thanks.

I hope the surge protector is separate from your TV. It has Varistors in it that are supposed to pass overvoltage surges (it can happen without the power going out) then recover to normal. But sometimes they overheat, then they can become a fire hazard. Or the contacts in the sockets can get charred and flakey. Anyway sounds like it is fried, the only easy solution is replace it. A careful tinkerer with a good scrounge box could fix it, if you know anybody like that.

After a lightening storm, my power surge strip got hit and damaged everything that was attached to it (i.e. the internet modem, blu-ray player, and Samsung TV). Our TV only has a blue screen. Help

Yep, power spikes kill. Power spikes kill all. Power spikes kill all forever. Replace all and get a new surge protector that costs at least $99. If you never need it it is called insurance. I am in FL the capitol of lightning. High priced surge protectors are cheeeeep when lightning is there.

What would make my TV have a loud pop sound, screen went blank and does not power back up?

Has there been a power surge through the mains? That may have caused the issue and ruined your TV. I am not sure if the TV can be fixed if this is the case.
To prevent this happening again, plug any TVs, expensive desktops etc into a surge protector. This will prevent any power surges from the mains overloading and ruining your devices.

I hope this helps.

Their was a blackout in my neighborhood. The next day in the morning i tried to turn on my 50inch HP Plasma and it made a loud popping sound. The volume on the tv still works.

Hello.
You probably did not have that tv plugged into a surge protector. When the power was restored, a surge came through the line. A power surge is a spike in voltage above the maximum a tv, appliance etc. can handle of 169 volts. They are very brief, usually lasting millinths of a second. Power surges can vary in duration and magnitude, varying from a few hundred volts to several thousand volts.

That said, now what do you do. If the tv is under 3 years old I recommend that you take it into a local TV repair shop for a free estimate of repair. If it is older than that, I would not repair, just replace. J.

Power surge hit my surge protector with my 'sony tv hooked to it.

Well, the power supply may be still damaged by the surge, what may happen is that when first surge happens the surge protector protect your TV by sacrifing itself but then the second surge comes along, since the protector already blown up then the surge will just come right through to the TV on the second surge. That is bad problem for the surge protector that sacrify itself but can only do it for ONE time.

Loud pop and now Vizio 37 TV will not work

This sound like the power supply board went bad. You should check that. See if the fuse on the board is blown first.. You can get a "pulled" power supply board on the net if needed.

Surge Protector

Surge Protectors are devices that usually you plug your equipment to.. and it protects it from Voltage Spikes that would otherwise destroy the device without it.. saddly not all Surge Protectors are the sam.. some are completely useless..

If you are really serious about protecting your PC not just the hardware but also the data and your work.. might as well invest on a UPS(Uninterrupted Power Supply) unit.. it has everything a surge protector can offer and more..

Instantly blows the 5 amp fuse next to the power cord plug.

You have a short in the power supply. Look at the regulator and or rectifier diodes. These are all on th primary side of the SMPS (switched mode power supply) the secondary side if shorted shouldn't cause a blown fuse at all.
