No Light and the turntable is not working

Went to turn on the light and heard a pop from the keyboard. Lights went out and the turntable is not working. Tested fuses and their good. Clock works, everything else seems to work. Any help in what could possibly be wrong would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Open your microwave completely unscrewed but make sure it is disconnected from the power; check all the other fuses inside, if it doesn't fix the issue then take it to a pro to get this fix.

SOURCE: myemerson microwave stopped heating in the middle

The trouble is most likely due to a door switch fault. There are switches operated by the door latch to make sure the door is closed, and they can go out of adjustment or fail. Replacing or adjusting the switch is not a difficult repair, but any microwave repairs should be left to a professional. There are potentially lethal voltages under the cover, and the danger of microwave leakage if the repairs aren't done correctly. If you want to keep this oven, get a repair estimate from a shop. Or consider replacing the oven if it's a basic counter-top model. They are usually under $50, and a repair will probably cost nearly that.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

SOURCE: Our microwave oven Emerson 8992SB

Here is a link to your microwave's Online User Manual in case you don't have it already:

http://www.emersonelectronics.ca/emerson/documents/MW8992RD%20-%2009%20Cubic%20Ft%20900%20Watt%20Microwave%20Ovenmanual.pdf

On page 13 of the above manual you will find instructions on how to deactivate the child lock in case that was the problem.

Basically you just hold down the STOP/CANCEL button for 3 seconds.

If it is not that then you might be looking at some kind of power supply circuit board or control circuit board failure and some significant disassembly since I don't believe there is an easily accessible fuse you can replace in the unit.

Good luck and I hope this was at least a little helpful.
Joe.

SOURCE: The turntable stopped turning and when I press start, nothing happenes. The clock still works and the light comes on when opened but, nothing else.

Hello,

Check the turntable guide to make sure it is lined up properly and that there is no debris caught in it. You may need to re-align or clean your turntable guide.

Cleaning and realigning a turntable guide;

Remove your glass turntable cooking tray from your microwave. Gently wash with warm soapy water to remove any debris. Next remove the turntable guide and clean it in the same manner, with warm soapy water. Pay particular attention to the turntable rollers. There could be spilled food particles caught in the rollers, hindering the rollers' movement. Also, gently cleanse the internal cavity of your microwave, paying special attention to the area below the turntable.

With the internal cavity, turntable, and turntable guide completely clean and dry, return the parts to your microwave. First place the turntable guide on the bottom of the microwave. There should be a circular groove in the bottom of the microwave cavity keeping the turntable guide in place. Follow the guide with the turntable cooking tray. Carefully place the glass tray over the turntable guide and onto the drive bushing. The drive bushing should fit neatly into the grooves on the bottom of your glass cooking tray. It may take some adjusting before the tray will sit properly onto the drive bushing.

Test your microwave after this thorough cleaning and realigning in order to determine whether this has solved your problem. DO NOT run your microwave with nothing in it.

CAUTION: Your microwave oven is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock, even when it is unplugged. We strongly suggest you seek the assistance of an appliance repair technician when conducting any microwave oven repair.

Also, Examine the plastic drive bushing the turntable tray sits on. It may have become worn, or even may have split in two;

Drive bushing replacement

Inspect the plastic drive bushing located below your microwave oven's turntable tray. There may be some debris blocking the tray's range of motion. Clean away any blockage you find, and then test your microwave to see if this has cleared up the problem. DO NOT run your microwave with nothing in it.

However, if upon your inspection, you notice that the plastic drive bushing below the turntable tray is worn and/or broken, you will need to have the bushing replaced. Consult with a certified and experienced appliance repair technician. Replacing a drive bushing is a lengthy and involved process that the average layman should not perform.

Regards.

SOURCE: emerson microwave MW8103SS not heating up.

If the turntable in not turning, it's probably be a bad door switch or door switch mount.

See these links:

If the turntable does turn, then it is probably a bad connection or component in the high voltage section.

Turntable won't turn

This may be a grease buildup underneath the turntable, or a bad turntable motor or coupler, or the circuitry which drives it.

If your internal cook light or cooling fan are also not working, I would suspect a controller problem, especially if your cooktop lights recently went out.

Less than 5 years old - Microwave Panel lights up, turntable turns, fan works - everything works except it doesn't heat food. Heard a pop, and now it runs louder than before but doesn't heat. Any ideas?

That pop was the magnetron frying. This is a repairable problem, but feirly expensive, around $300 if you have it done by a professional.

There is a varistor or thermostat switch mounted on the wall behind the control panel. I unpluged the leads and shorted them together. the fan and lights started working again. Heard a "POP" and both lights went out. Replaced bulbs and still, No Lights".

You most likely have a blown fuse. The fuse is located inside the case at the top and likely to the left.
