My laptop HP Pavillion ZV6000, battery started decreasing and wouldn't charge when the ac adapter was connected. I purchased another ac adapter thinking that was my problem. It didn't work. Now I have purchased a new battery, do you think that will fix my problem? My laptop will not even power on now, when I try to turn the power button on a lightening bolt flashes blue. What is that? If the batter doesn't fix the problem, what should I do next?

As others have said, the most common fault with the ZV series is the power socket. However, you mentioned the Lightning Bolt. This indicates that the battery is being charged and it should go out as soon as the battery is fully charged.

If the Lightning Bolt flashes on and off regularly, especially when the power cable is moved, then the socket is at fault and needs replacing.

You can check to see if the battery is receiving a charge by doing the following

1. Right Click the Desktop
2. Click Properties
3. Click the Screen Saver tab
4. Click the Power button
5. Click the Power Meter tab

This will tell you the computer's current power source and whether the battery is charging.

I have replaced several of these sockets on ZV5000s and I'm sure the 6000 will be similar. I would not recommend this job for anyone without technical knowledge, despite some of the websites that say you can do it yourself. You will need to strip the entire laptop down and all but remove the motherboard before the socket can be replaced.

Hope this helps

1) The laptop shuts off when AC power adapter is plugged in.
Possible cause:
1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.
First of all, test the power adpater. Make sure the apdapter outputs correct voltage. It's possible that the outup voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damge. Test your laptop with anohter known good power adapter.
If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likley it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard.

2) If you can hear the buzzing noise from a few feet away and it gets very hot, that means your ac adapter is failing.

The AC jack probably went bad. Find someone who can fix it, if its worth it.
Thats about it.

Yes, thats what I was saying the jack on the motherboard itself can go bad. I have a friend who had same problem with a Toshiba. He just parted it out. But The right person could fix it, if its new enough to be worth fixing. Cost?

Zv6000 will not charge will not run off of cord

Try another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs. Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord while plugged in?

I have a gateway laptop & it wont turn on. its charge & everything.

Hi! Welcome to www.fixya.com.
Its definitely a hardware issue. You can remove the battery and ac adapter and drain the power for 10 seconds. then use only the ac adapter. Press the power button and if it did'nt turn on. You have to call your manufacturer for motherboard replacement.

Hope this resolution fix the problem on your computer. Thanks for contacting Fixya. Bye for now.

if the pc is not getting power without the ac adapter then most likely the battery is dead if it does not take a charge via the ac adapter then then the battery is no good or the ac adapter is busted

Battery problems

It should fix the problem, did you make sure you got the right battery(correct model number etc? like a genuine OEM battery).

If that doesnt fix it, go into your control panel, power settings, and select the battery option.. and check how your laptop uses the battery when its not plugged into AC power.

If that doesnt fix it, then contact HP, if its still under warrenty, it might be the AC terminal thats going bad, and might need the computer serviced. BTW how old is the computer?

Charging problems

Hopefully the battery is just confused and needs to be reset. Drain the battery down until the system shuts off automatically, then take the battery out of the laptop for two minutes and plug it back in, and connect the AC adapter, let it charge without turning the laptop on, then turn it on and hopefully it should work fine again. If not then you may need to buy another battery. Try again with another AC adapter just in case because you don't want to replace your battery (expensive!)

Please rate, thanks!

Ac cord

And the problem is??
If nothing else, go to ebay. cheap prices, plenty to choose from.
If money doesn't matter and you're in a hurry, purchase a high quality "universal" power adapter, such as ICE. Make sure it carries 90 watts and can handle the appropriate amperage.
Good luck
