Xenyx 1002fx hums with nothing connected

Xenyx 1002FX hums with just my yorkville speaker connected and no components. I am using a 1/4 jack to XLR plug to connect my mixer 1/4 to my speaker XLR. My power supply is only a two prong power cord/transformer which is how it came for the Xenyx. I even removed my ground on the yorkville speaker, still - loud hum. (thinking it was a ground loop. When I plug my pioneer 3 prong mixer in.... no noise. Both the speaker and mixer is plugged into the same surge protected strip. Any Suggestions? Is it a dirty transformer and how would I ground the mixer since it only has two prongs. I even put a radio shack isolator between my mixer and speaker connection. Still, no difference (hummmmm)

Hi Michael Turner, This may be the transformer for the mixer , can you meter test the transformers output ? Or have another AC adapter with equal volt / Amp and plug output to test with ?

SOURCE: My laptop is feeding through

Try hooking your mixer up to your Mackies without the laptop. Does the hum go away? Try hooking your laptop output up to the Mackies without the mixer. Does the hum go away? Make sure that all your power cables run from the same outlet and have the ground or third pin intact on the plug. Also make sure that you are using shielded cables for any connection that carries an audio signal. This includes the cables going to your Mackies as they are powered amplified monitors. Make sure that the cables to your Mackies are balanced and haven't been altered to unbalanced. You will need to use unbalanced cables from your laptop unfortunately but try to find ones with a shield and three conductors ( right and left signals and a common or ground) that have a separate shield from the common. The shield should only be connected to common at the output of the device where the signal starts. A better explanation is at these links:http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/ also http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/cable_shielding.html

SOURCE: hi i would like to

by in ear monitor I assume you are talking about a set of stereo headphones.
.
These would plug into the PHONES jack, which is located just to the left of the MAIN OUT jacks.
If your headphones have a 1/8 inch jack, you will require a 1/8 inch female to 1/4 inch male stereo adapter.
These are fairly common, and can usually be purchased at any audio store or Radio Shack or The Source by Circuit City.

How to in install the speakers to it

You will need either powered speakers or an amplifier for the speakers. If you have powered speakers with built in amplifiers, use balanced audio connection cables from the MAIN outs of the mixer to the speakers, Use XLR or 1/4 inch TRS cables.
If you do NOT have powered speakers you will need amplifier as well and speaker cables in addition to the audio connection cables above.

I have a compaq v2000 and what Im tryin to do is conect my Mbox mini and the Xenyx 1002 to the laptop is that posible ? how can I do that ?

Should be possible. For system safety electronically, power ALL interconnected equipment from the same receptacle/plug strip. Use Balanced lines, either XLR or TRS wherever possible.

I have a Xenyx 1002, and my microphone is 1/4 Jack, should I use a adapter to convert it to xlr, so I can plug it in. Can I plug my 1/4 to Line in directly

You can't do any damage... just try plugging into the line... If the mic has enough output it may work. Balanced line mics are best though...

My beringer europowered 800w mixer blew a fuse ,replaced it ,has blown several more fuse's since,i used a lower 5 amp fuse did not last - 10 amp is standard > is it time to trash this unit?

I don't understand because the Xenyx 1002fx draws only 16 Watts so the fuse should be well less than 1 amp why would you put a 5 amp?

And your 800 Watt mixer???... There is something wrong with this model number as the 1002fx certainly is not 800 Watts. Please supply the correct model numbers so we can help you.

The unit is repairable I am sure.

Connect xenyx 2442fx to computer

If you want to record in stereo, the quick and dirty way is to get a 1/4 inch stereo to 1/8 inch plug cable and go frrom the headphone output jack. (Use a Wye connector if you need to listen on the phones)

All the other outs are TRS and XLR balanced and the computer audio (mic) inputs are unbalanced. You would need special cables to connect those.

Do I need to connect the Xenyx 1202 to an amp?

If you are the only person listening, you can use headphones with the headphone jack. Otherwise you will have to use some sort of amplification and speakers,e.g. P.A., stereo etc. I'm using a Xenyx 1222 FX and am quite happy with it.
