Kenwood troubleshooting I just installed a KMR-355U 2004 in a Hyundai Sonata with a Metra Hyundai 70-7301 wire harness but I get no sound. Everything seems to be wired up correctly. Power antenna works when I select FM tuner but there is no sound coming out of the speakers. I went through the intial setup and selected OEM for the speaker set-up but still no sound. The reciever unit seems to be functioning OK. I can go through all the menus OK nad there doesn't seem to be any other issue other than there simply is no sound. I matched all the correct wires on both harnesses as far as speakers are concerned. After I went through all of that I even reset the Kenwood and started the intial setup again thinking that might help. Still no sound out of the speakers. I did leave the mute wire un attached because there wasn't any attachment listed on the Hyundai connector. The Kenwood instructions said to leave wires off that didn't have connections on the other end from the car manufacture. What could be the problem? I read someones post online that said he had to hook up both the blue and white wire and the blue wire in order to get sound and have the power antenna work. My power antenna works but I get no sound out of the speakers. Please advise. Thanks, Doug

The Kenwood KDC-355U display will read Protect if the receiver detects a short. Check all of the wiring between the unit and the speakers. If you find a loose wire or a spot where a bare wire is touching part of the car (or another bare wire), secure the wire and use electrical tape to insulate the bare wires as needed.
I had a similar problem with the DDX470 in a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. Turns out the car has a factory installed amplifier so the Blue/White wire had to be connected to the Blue/White wire on the wiring harness I had connected to the car. Let me know if you have this wire connected or not, and what type of vehicle you are installing the stereo into.
You'll have to go to Kenwood or to the audio dealer where you purchased the receiver if you do not have the harness that plugs into the back of the radio.
One vehicle specific aftermarket harness for a '96 Tacoma is the Metra 70-1761 available here at Crutchfield.
