No Gas to Primer Bulb

Bulb has collapsed and motor will not start

  • cdog53 Jun 01, 2009

Jim, yes and no. I took the carb apart and cleaned it, Didn't run but it was dirty. Then I found a broken fuel line in the gas tank so I replaced that. Started right up ran for about 10 minutes then stopped. Looks like I need to replace both gas lines with the proper size. No place around here (Rochester NY).carries them so I'll have to order those and I will get the carb kit as well. Thanks for pointing out where the problem was.

It sounds like the carburetor needs cleaned. Take the carb. apart and clean it with carb. cleaner. Use a Den Tech Brush, (used for cleaning teeth), they are perfect for cleaning the small ports in carb. If that still doesn't work, you may need to buy a carb. kit for your weed eater. If so, replace the gaskets and valve needle, and also make sure to replace the small screen. this should all come in the new carb. kit.

I have a 2014 Yamaha 200 hp outboard, after 10 minutes of run time the primer bulb collapses and boat starves for fuel.

There should be a vent on your gas tank cap . Open it up so the tank can breath. If no air gets in it creates a vacuum causing the primer to collapse and will shut down the engine.
If there is no vent turn the cap open a little just to let some air in but those tanks should be able to vent.

Primer bulb collapsed

Slightly unscrew the gas cap and see it the problem goes away.
Many times the Gas tank Vent clogs and this will cause the engine to create a vacuum in the gas tank until the engine can't draw in the gas .

Bulb on primer collapses. which line in gas tank does the filter go on?two tubes in tank one goes to bulb other goes to bottom of carb which one gets the filter, it fell off

The line that goes to the bottom of the carb has the in-tank fuel filter. That is the fuel supply, the one coming out of the primer base assembly under the bulb is the return line. That line carries air mixed with old fuel back to the fuel tank when the bulb is pushed.

Replaced primer bulb and gas lines will not prime or start

Sounds like you have the lines connected incorrectly. Make sure that the bottom of the carb is connected to the inlet side of the primer (take the lines off and with one of the ports covered with your finger push the bulb, if it collapses and doesn't return then that's the suction/inlet of the bulb). The other side of the bulb needs to be connected to the gas tank. The other side of the carb needs to go to the filter side of the gas tank.
Good luck!

  • The filtered hose from the fuel tank connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer, the output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer bulb (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill the bulb as the bulb reinflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns any excess fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

Fuel line connection

Fuel filter to bottom of carb. The suction port of primer to the top of carb outlet line to other port to tank.
To tell which port is outlet put your finger on one port and push bulb if the bulb collapses and doesn't return then that is the inlet (suction) side.
Good luck

Routing of fuel lines for a weedeater bv200 type 2. Which lines go where from the carb into the tank?

The line with the filter goes to the bottom of the carb. The other line goes to the outlet side of the primer bulb and the other line from the primer bulb goes to the top of the carb (The primer sucks gas through the carb).
Good luck!
Ps. if you are not sure which nipple of the primer is the outlet port then put your finger on one of the ports and push the bulb. If the bulb stays ridged then that's the outlet and if it collapses but doesn't fill but up then that's the inlet side.

My weed eater will not start

Sounds like the carb or gasket around the carb is leaking allowing the pressure to blow by when you press the primer bulb. If its not air tight it will not pop back out. Check your carb and surrounding gaskets and check for a leak.
