The top of the battery nearest the light bulb is the positive connection and is in direct contact with the bulb. The negative connection is a strip of brass that runs along the length of the torch from the bottom (bottom of last battery) to the bulbs side connection.

My troybilt hydrostatic riding mower blows the fuse the instant the battery terminals are connected. I know it's a short but where should I look first?

Start by putting a automotive test lamp (incandescent
type) in series with the battery and ground cable. It should light and the fuse will remain intact.

Then start push/pulling electric cables and wires while observing test lamp. If there is a short from abrasion or a detached connector likely you'll get the lamp to flicker or go out.

If you cant get the lamp to flicker, you'll need to start disconnecting components to isolate the problem. Start with the ignition switch, but expect the light to go out. If it doesnt then, look to connections at the starter solenoid. Then disconnect engine alternator or voltage regulator. Then the PTO and brake switches.

The right turn signal front is not working, All else works

Replace flasher, replace blown fuses.
remove bulb and put another new one in, test.
remove bulb check socket for corrosion - wipe with dielectric grease if corroded. reinsert bulb test.
very carefully check all wires connected to back of socket -
look for break or splits --R&R.
Check the signal feed wire with a probe from the back of the bulb socket - go back along wire towards signal light relay. R&R
You can find diagram on the web if you need one.

My farmall H will not turn over at all. Battery is good. 6volt. Manual push button start. New starter . Nothing Help please.

Haven't work on one these but following is what I use for finding bad grounds even though I got several meters.

You can rig up test light using some wire and a 6 v lamp bulb. It won't give an exact voltage readings but a brightly lit lamp indicates at the present of the voltage.

For testing for bad grounds use the main battery ground connection and probe the ground connections around the starter while trying to start. The test light will make it safer as you are just looking for a lit lamp will trying to start; just place the lamp where you can see it from the starting position. The test light will light if there is a bad connection between the starter's ground and the battery ground.

The same setup can be uses to probe to see if voltage is even reaching the starter through the switch and solenoid connections. If the starter solenoid is separate from the starter it can have a bad ground too and will not operate.

Got battery drain problem

First you need a 12v lamp in a holder or get someone to solder two wires to one, next disconnect the earth lead of the battery and connect the lamp between the battery and earth if you have battery drain the lamp will glow brit the less drain the less the lamp will glow, remember you will always have a bit of drain, now you can remove a fuse at a time and look at the lamp if it glows less this could be the circuit that's at fault. Good luck.

The battery of my 2009 Ajs JSM 125 is not charging, how do I check the rectifier?

Find the rectifier. Use a paper clip (you will need two paper clips), a D battery and a single flash light lamp. Test that the lamp will light using your battery and the paper clip. Straighten/bend the clip in a manner that will allow the bottom of the battery to be connected to the side of the lamp. The solder joint on the bottom of the lamp touching the bump on the top of the battery. Disconnect the rectifier from the circuit. Put the light in each position of the four contacts using the paper clips, battery and lamp. The lamp SHOULD light in one half of the connections and should NOT light in the reverse positions. Your Bridge Rectifier is built using diodes. These diodes pass electricity one direction but not the other. Your D battery represents the electricity - the light tells if the power is passing or not. A rectifier is necessary because the Alternator on your motorcycle produces AC current. Your Battery needs DC current to charge. The diode more correctly assists in the 'creation' of rectified AC that looks and acts like DC the battery can use.

I hope this helps you.

I need a detailed instructions on how to connect a toogle switch to a fuceable link to a battery and to a halogin headlight bulb?

Ok there are 2 ways todo this ,, the first is the easiest but not the cleanest..

First ..
1.) connect 8 guage wire from postive battery terminal to (2 port fuse holder)..
2.) from each of the fuse in the holder connect to the positive lead of each bulb (which should be in the bulb holder and in the headlamps or fogs or whatever).
3.) connect negative to a bolt on cars body.. Lamps will come on..
4.) remove positive from battery terminal..
5.) connect to your spst switch (what ever kind of switch u are using.)
6.) mount switch inside car,
7.) connect wire from other lead of switch to battery terminal..(pos)
Switch the lamps on and off using the switch..

Second method..

you will need
2 4-pin relays
8 guage wire
tester

1.) remove connectors from both head lamps
2.) turn on head lamps and test to see which is positive on each
3.) bridge this wire to the Com on the relay .. (1 head lamp to 1 relay)
connect positve wire from battery termial to relay (each relay seperate wire)
connect negative wire from cars body to relay (each relay seperate wire)
4.) connect Out from relay to Positive on Halogen bulb
6.) connect negative from bulb to cars body

now the lamps will come on and off with the head lamp switch..

Alternatively you can connect the fuse holder to the battery, and connect a switch to that and then that to the positive in on the relay..

Sorry I dont have any diagrams didnt have the time to draw one,, answered this quickly this morning before work..

Battery keeps dying, it's alternator was replaced in August and a new battery, so why is there a problem now ?

You may have another Alternator issue so get the charge rate checked. Then, look for a leakage issue like the glove box lamp staying on, or the lamp in the trunk or boot staying on. I have even seen the lamps in the footwells stay on and drain a battery overnight.
An easy test is to use a test lamp. Make sure all the doors are closed and everything is turned off (tail lamps etc). Disconnect the battery negative and connect the test lamp between the battery post and the cable clamp. If the lamp lights and stays lit, you have a leakage. Begin by disconnecting the courtesy lamps or removing the bulbs. When the test lamp goes out, theres ya leakage. If you have a charging system connected to the vehicle which charges a second battery, like one in a caravan, check those circuits too.. And even though the Alternator is new, it may still be the cause of the problem.. So check it out as well..

Ups is not glow any indication, just give buzzer sound , APC make 2000va RS model kindly tell me what i can do to repair it.

It look like dead battery. Try to connect carefully new (or allmost new) battery with 24v lamp in (+) wire. If UPS alive - you'll see only small momentary sparcle. After this - connect battery as usual and try to turn system on. Be carefull! If lamp lit in full power - it means a serious internal problem. Best solution - look for qualified serviceman. (maybe yoir system needs reprpogramming).
